So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

Thanks, not quite what I expected would be in this anthology (it's an odd process, they just told me it would be in the anthology and gave me no other info)

A little odd to be in an anthology next to Barack Obama. I'm sure he feels honoured.

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.
Goody-bag merch from Tory Conference branded "When Labour negotiates Britian loses" and signed "Kemi Badenoch".

I see two big differences between this and sportswashing:

1. We *love* and also root for sports teams, tournaments have a historical mythos about them. I don't think that quite translates.

2. Video games are way more interactive.

Interested to hear more.

What Saudi Arabia’s role in the Electronic Arts buyout tells us about image, power and ‘game-washing’
The video game company is being acquired for a record-breaking US$55 billion. Despite being named ‘The Worst Company in America’, why is it so in-demand?

Another classic at Daily Nous. Someone does point out that this first comment was likely a joke..

Having an open access book is so helpful for teaching. I can set my own stuff without feeling like I'm doing it for evil reasons (the massive amounts of money I get whenever anyone buys a copy)

Too kind! Thanks! Would love to know what you think: this paper is all set, but I want to write something springing out of it (not sure in which direction) some day...

Every time I watch Clarkson's Farm I'm reminded of my PhD supervisor: no similar names, but the farm manager guy has exactly the same vibe.

Why are they advertising this as "FIFA" tickets. It's the World Cup!

Watching a Swindon episode of Come Dine with Me. Painful.

I argue this is because fandom affects our identities - and what it means to be a fan of a particular team has depth to it. So bad behaviour can alter what it means to be a fan, and can shift the identities even of the good fans. We need to think in terms of shame, not guilt.

I suggest that some people might not be fans, some fan behaviour might not reflect on the community, and some groups of partisan fans can distance themselves from fans of the same team. But ultimately, they are still fans of the same team and the bad behaviour reflects back even on the well-behaved.

JCrew really wants me to buy their new rollneck. They don't even know I'm a philosopher!

I'm once again looking for the language of "redemption" in sportswriting/commentary

From one of those academic coach types on LinkedIn. Infuriating mess of buzzwords without any real content. A false promise of a different form of success. What the fuck is a self-directed academic? (In a stable role)
