Trainer’s eyebrow cocked. He held out a hand, palm side up, towards Phan. “Give me your hand.” She did as instructed, holding out her arm. Trainer took hold of her wrist and ran the stone across her fingertip before releasing her. He held the stone to the light. Where Phan touched it, it shimmered a slight greenish color. He presented it to the old man. “This should be blue.” “It’s fine. As long as it’s not red, you’ll be okay. Pink probably isn’t great, either.” “Can you just go now?” asked the clerk. “Is there a reason you’re so eager to get rid of me?” Trainer asked. “Yes. You’re clearly a cop.” “He’s not,” said the old man. “I’m not,” said Trainer. “Well you’ve got cop energy. And the local governors don’t like cops.” “Governors? You mean the gangs.” “Same thing around here. But if they see you’re here, they’ll probably kill you.” “They won’t succeed,” Trainer said. “Unless you’ve got an army backing you up, I wouldn’t risk it.” Trainer looked the stone over once more. “I suppose I don’t have that.” He looked to Phan. “Come on. There’s nothing else for us here.” “Okay.”

Lizz entered the cargo bay, still carrying her data pad. She noticed the other cadets huddled around one of the tables, excitedly whispering to one another. “What’s going on?” She approached the table. Jase gave her a very self-satisfied grin. “Xank found this data slip.” “I didn’t find it. You did. Why are you trying to blame me?” “Well, whatever, you decrypted it.” “What is it?” asked Lizz. “And why are you being so weird about it?” “We didn’t want anyone to hear,” said Jase. “Hear what? And anyone who? Trainer left the ship almost an hour ago.” “He did?” Barzan asked. “Yeah. Didn’t he tell you?” “He did not,” said Xank. “Well, whatever. What’s up with this data slip?” “It’s Talla’s.” Jase’s grin didn’t fade. It felt unseemly. “Oh, God, there aren’t pictures of her or something on it, are there?” Lizz asked. “No, there…” Jase’s smile finally faded, “actually, we didn’t think to look for that yet.” He looked to Xank. Xank shook his head. “No, but it’s a whole bunch of stuff from when she was undercover,” Jase continued. “That can’t be real,” said Lizz. “What do you mean?” “That stuff would be highly encrypted. Not even Xank could break it.”

The longer I look at this "Spock" figurine, the more I see wrong with it.
A figurine of Spock that is a confusing mess of sculpted/painted details from the TOS and movie era uniforms, and some that don't match either.

Select what letters? This is what I see on the linked page. The only thing I can do is uncheck the box at the bottom, which removes the word "for," or use the slider at the bottom to enlarge or shrink the yellow words that are already on the page. I can't touch the slider at the top or type anything

The two cadets leaped back as a dividing wall slammed shut across the hallway. “Holy shit,” said Lizz. “I didn’t know it was going to do that.” “It wasn’t, until I got you where you needed to be,” Trainer said. “Containment closures are only located every so often across the station.” “Okay, except, now it’s between us and the ship,” said Jase. “I can guide you around. Start heading up the corridor and take the second left.” The cadets began moving. “But won’t he start coming around, too?” Jase asked. They made the turn Trainer instructed. “If he can figure out how, yes. Take the next left. I’d suggest you move quickly.” “Do we have to run?” Phan asked. “We just went down fifty flights of stairs and my legs are so little.” “He didn’t say run,” said Lizz. “Just go the best we can. Stay together, this time. We’re close enough. No one needs to get left.”

While the place bore some resemblance to the orbital ports around Kaia, it didn’t seem to be anywhere near as well kept. The lights weren’t as bright, the walls not as polished, and there seemed to be boxes stacked haphazardly: not enough to impede egress, but enough to make the place look untidy. There was also a distinct lack of personnel. It seemed to just be Vezen, and now Trainer and Phan. Once in Vezen’s office – more boxes, these definitely obstructing movement – Vezen took his place behind the desk. He hadn’t even taken a seat before pivoting to address his guests. “So, what’re you looking for way out here?” “Friends,” Trainer said flatly. “Huh. Well, you’re a little late for that.” Trainer’s brow raised on one side. “Is that right?” “What does that mean?” asked Phan. “It sounds like Vezen’s already been turned. Just like Trumane.” “No. No. I’m loyal. A hundred percent. But that’s the problem.” Vezen’s fingers moved down the front of his shirt, unfastening each button in turn as they went. “They could tell you were coming to me for help. They ‘reached out’ alright.” Once enough of the buttons were undone, he gripped the placket and pulled the shirt open to expose his chest. At the center of it was a glowing, swirling, bubbling wound. Phan’s hands clasped over her mouth. “Oh my God.”

It was late morning when Talla groggily awoke. The first things she saw was a doctor standing over her, her light-colored scrubs barely offset against the sterile white room. The gown and blankets that covered her own body were similarly pale. “Oof,” Talla said. “Hi there. Welcome back.” “Thanks.” “How do you feel?” “I think you know by now. Better than I have in a long time.” “What I know is that once in a while I’d like it if you came in here and all you needed was a quick once-over.” “How long have I been out?” “Almost three days.” “Huh. I’ve had worse.” “Yes, you have. Do yourself a favor: see if the operations officer has an easier assignment for you next time. Maybe see if there’s anyone threatening the safety of the empire from a nice beach resort.” “I’ll go where they send me. You know that.” “And I know that if you don’t get yourself killed, you’ll be hauled in here half dead and I’ll be expected to do my usual miraculous restoration work.” “For which the crown and I both remain grateful.”

He bumped his elbow into Xank’s ribs. “Yeah, she’s a woman alright.” Xank sneered at him, silently asking, “what the fuck, dude?” “Uh… yeah,” said Lizz. “Trainer said I could wear it.” “No, it’s fine.” Talla waved her off, “You didn’t have it altered, did you? It was custom made. And the designer is dead now.” “We didn’t,” Trainer told her. “There was no time.” “Okay,” she said. “Also, we didn’t have access to a seamstress, so…” Jase trailed off with everyone staring at him. “What?” Trainer cocked an eyebrow. “You’re a seamstress?” Jase asked. “I’m many things.” “And one of those things is a seamstress?”
