Hi Bluesky!

For my first post, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m James Skoufis, State Senator for the 42nd District of New York - the great Orange County!

We’re a swing district - this year VP Harris lost by 12%. I won by almost 14%. Let me tell you how I got started ⬇️
Huge thanks to @democrats.org Chairman @kenmartin.bsky.social for naming me to the DNC’s Executive Committee as an At-Large Member.

This DNC is laser-focused on organizing against Trump’s authoritarianism as well as rebuilding our party’s big tent. Honored to be on Chair Martin’s team.

The only thing dropping faster than Donald Trump’s approval ratings is Tesla’s stock.

People are waking up and we will hold this administration accountable every day. We won’t bend the knee to a king in this country.

750+ people showed up in the small Village of Warwick because we all deeply believe in what Benjamin Franklin said in 1787 at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention: America would be a republic. If we could keep it.

We will never bend a knee to a king. Or wannabe king.

Let’s talk about the affordability in the Senate’s proposed budget. From toll relief, to senior support, to school funding, it just makes sense to invest in New York.
March 19, 2025 at 12:34 AM
The state needs to do more to help senior citizens stay in New York. That’s why I pushed so hard for relief in this year’s Senate budget and it shows:

✅ $2.1 billion over three years for senior citizen tax rebate checks.

So many folks are asking what they can do to fight back in this moment. Yes, donate to the party if you can. Yes, call your member of Congress.

But, you want to help create the permanent infrastructure to start winning again? LOOK UP AND JOIN your local town or county committee.

This is clearly a normal, rational, non-authoritarian thing a President does…

NEWS

The White House is working on an executive order to fire thousands of US Department of Health and Human Services workers.

Under the order, the FDA, CDC, and other health agencies would have to cut a certain percentage of employees.
Exclusive | White House Preparing Order to Cut Thousands of Federal Health Workers
The executive order could come as soon as next week, if the Trump administration goes ahead with plans, according to people familiar with the matter.

John King took the job of SUNY Chancellor knowing he was re-entering public service. With that should have come the expectation that he would not earn a millionaire’s salary and perks on the backs of taxpayers.

Absolutely appalling. Somehow, even more damaging than a wrestling executive leading the agency.

Millions of children will be affected and harmed by this no matter who you voted for.
BREAKING: The White House is preparing an executive order to eliminate the Department of Education, two sources familiar with the plans tell NBC News.

The planned order follows years of campaign promises from President Donald Trump to abolish the federal Education Department.

It’s time for Orange County to finally part ways with the MTA. Earlier today, I introduced legislation to withdraw from the MTA that does little more than treat our community like an ATM. 🧵

Congratulations to my good friend, and now our DNC Chair, @kenmartin.bsky.social, on a hard-fought, decisive win! His win is OUR win!

Let’s now unite and work together to ensure Dems come roaring back, compete everywhere, and start WINNING AGAIN.

Please keep the passengers and loved ones of the tragic plane crash in your thoughts. A national tragedy, last night is a stark reminder of how suddenly a normal routine can turn into a horrific event.

Our hearts are heavy throughout America today.

Pausing all federal grants and loans to give this administration a chance to “review” them will kill the small communities and orgs across America that survive on them. Millions of Americans are being thrown into jeopardy because we have an admin unable to walk and chew gum at the same time.
White House pauses all federal grants, sowing alarm
Democrats warn the move could have "devastating consequences" on programmes that people across the US rely on.

🧵 I started this race as a complete unknown outside of NY, and I’m proud of our aggressive campaign to deliver major change to the DNC.

It is with the only goal in sight that matters – winning elections – that I am throwing my full support to @kenmartin.bsky.social, the next Chair of the DNC.
January 16, 2025 at 2:55 PM
National Democrats have lost trust with many voters - on both sides of tough issues - because they’ve been unwilling to meaningfully engage in difficult conversations.

As Chair, I will seek common ground, lead with people’s stories, and stop letting our opponents steer the narrative.
January 10, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Democrats saw our urban dam break in swing and safe states alike, led by an exit from Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters. Taking these voters for granted would be catastrophic.
January 10, 2025 at 5:47 PM
The next DNC Chair needs to be someone who can challenge a status quo set by out-of-touch DC consultants who tell us not to show up in 43 of 50 states every four years.

I win on deep Trump turf and will bring wholesale change to the DNC to ensure others can, too.
In the third interview of our DNC candidate chair series, New York State Senator @jamesskoufis.bsky.social joins Marc Elias to discuss what Democrats got wrong in the 2024 election and why he believes the DNC needs a “major shakeup.”

The Democratic Party needs to go on offense.

As Chair, I will build a significantly larger team of in-house lawyers to take the fight to the Republican Party, the Green Party, and anyone trying to make it harder to vote.

Honored to be sworn today in for another term representing part of the Hudson Valley.

Let’s get to work.
