Non-reporters of race went up at a majority of these institutions, but at USC and Smith the numbers dropped significantly. This continues to be a befuddling data point.

I expect more data are forthcoming from some institutions, as they complete their fall census, and I'll keep tracking it.

But I also think that some institutions won't be sharing racial demographics in their class profile this year. We'll have to wait for data to come out through CDS/IPEDS.

But really, the big takeaway here is that a growing number of highly selective colleges and universities don't want you to have a takeaway. That's not a big surprise, given the current political atmosphere.

Asian American enrollment increased at most of these institutions.

I'm very reluctant to look for patterns or insights in a sample that small, but here's a couple things I noticed:

Black enrollment hit a new low at most of the colleges and universities that shared numbers. Cal Tech enrolled just 4 African American students this fall.

I relaunched the post-SFFA enrollment tracker for the class of 2029.

What took so long? Very few colleges & universities have published class profiles.

At this point last year, I had 33 places in the tracker. This year I have 13. jamessmurphy.com/2025/09/15/t...

the NCES longitudinal studies, especially high school which has been a mainstay since the 1970s.

HS&B:22 was planned to follow students through 12th grade and after, through postsecondary and career transitions.

Literally just a few months ago Mike Johnson just spearheaded the largest Medicaid cuts in history, four times as large as the Reagan’s Medicaid cuts

Mike Johnson: "Let me look right into the camera and tell you very clearly: Republicans are the ones concerned about healthcare. Republicans are the party working around the clock everyday to fix healthcare. This is not talking points for us: we've done it."

Although it remains to be seen what effect it will have in the end, I was proud that the faculty senate at UVA voted to pass a “Resolution Opposing the ‘Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education’.” Many students turned out brandishing signs that read “UVA CANNOT BE BOUGHT.”

Oh. Very safe to say Miller and Mailman are very much running that show, with big thumbs ups from Vance.
