Postdoc at MARUM, University of Bremen. I use corals to reconstruct past hydroclimate and tropical climate variability of the tropical Indian Ocean. Concerned about all things climate and paleoclimatology. Working in the @climatereefs.bsky.social

New Paper Alert!
Check out a recently published study around on decadal oscillations in the world's largest oxygen-deficient zone. This research, by Nicolas Duprey from MPI for Chemistry, uses nitrogen isotopes in corals skeletons to understand natural climate variability of the Pacific ODZ.

Starter packs are rad, but they tend to favor large, well-known accounts.

This is a list of some of my personal go-to experts across a wide variety of climate-related fields - science, economics, policy, risk, beavers?? - who are still building their networks here. Have a look.

Now that I've finally made the move, I'm reposting one of my favourite things I made during my PhD: 1 year of output from a regional simulation of the SW Indian Ocean (colours show SST). We often use neat schematic diagrams to represent ocean currents but in reality, it's a rather turbulent mess!

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.
Cover from The Economist from two years ago "Say goodbye to 1.5°C; why climate policy is off target". It has a graphic of the Earth with an apple on its head, and a arrow shot through the Earth.
