North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, held local elections today. Support for AfD up but at 15% well below party's national polling. And lower among the young: 5th place on 11% among under-25s, who also delivered a smaller swing towards the party than did older generations.

It has now been almost 10 years since I approached IDEAS/RePEc to start a new newsletter for new working papers (NEP) related to the economics of gender.

If someone would like to take over as NEP editor for gender, please let me know. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to this public good!

A big thank you to Christian Zimmermann (bsky.app/profile/czim...) and others at RePEc for setting up the NEP system. It has been a tremendous public good for economics research.

This growth can also be seen in the figure on NEP papers within the JEL J16 code (thanks to Andrei Dubovik: dubovik.eu/blog/repec). It will be exciting to follow all the new research that will appear in the years to come.

Over the last decade(s), the field has grown tremendously. Research on gender differences, how gender influences outcomes and discrimination, and on whether policies can lead to more equal outcomes has exploded, as reflected in the 2023 Nobel Prize awarded to Claudia Goldin.
