"He saw the state of the industry as it evolved out of the auteur-driven New Hollywood of the 1960s and 1970s and into the bombs, brawn, and boobs of the 1980s." He "envisioned a better cinematic world," and he set out to build it.

When I did my degree twenty five years ago I was taught that big Neolithic longhouses were where the important people lived: the Big Man/Chief of the tribe theory. Another idea has been 'feasting halls', or maybe communal homes where folk lived together. Now, the idea of grain surplus and storage. 🏺

Despite their size, they likely served the same roles as smaller centres of agricultural production, implying food surplus was a key signifier of elite status

Ancient bevelled rim bowls from fourth millennium BC Iraqi Kurdistan were likely used to distribute large quantities of stew, suggesting the earliest state institutions were formed based on their ability to provision food to labourers.

Excavation of Neolithic long barrow and Early Medieval round barrow (Muszkowice forest) with exciting discovery of a Funnel Beaker Neolithic pit containing large fragments of ceramic pots, daub, burned bones and flint fakes. Possible it was a sacrificial pit at the western end of the long barrow.

NEW As the first farmers expanded across Central Europe c. 5500–4900 BC, they built large cemeteries. Radiocarbon dates suggest cemetery burial was in fact a relatively short-lived practice, reflecting the dynamic social changes of the Early Neolithic.
