There really are just a couple of tickets left for this talk on Thursday, and that's by squeezing a couple of extra spaces in!
So grab them while you can and come hear Nick and me discuss basically how beer evolved!

Oh, that would be lovely. I shall get in touch next time that we are down your way.

No, I'm at the other end of the island, in north Scotland, however I'll be down to Bristol some time soon as I have family there. Hoping that this topic of beer (and malt) in prehistory is going to get people talking. I've been trying for years!

The @kornolfest.bsky.social at the weekend was fascinating. I learned so much. It's a whole new world. Something genuinely different to every other beer festival.
And held in amazingly beautiful place.
A like in Norway. In the foreground is a small jetty. On either side of the lake are steep slopes, mostlly covered in trees.

What is the legacy of the Vikings? A five year project on the perception of those Norse folk. Interesting, maybe, to some of the people that I know on here.

Also, the kingdom of the lauter tun is a lot smaller than the sea.

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?

@judithjesch.bsky.social here's an expert's explanation. A lauter tun is where hot water is run through the mash to obtain the wort which is the sweet liquid that will be fermented by the addition of yeast, or rather, kveik. This weekend has been the @kornolfest.bsky.social Traditional brewing. #ale

It seems to actually be "surf of the lauter tun" and "swamp of the lauter tun". The word "hrosta" means lauter tun, but I guess translators despair of making people understand that.

In Western Norway they still say "rost" for lauter tun. Heard it used many times this weekend.

Researchers have known that the T-shaped pillars of Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe symbolized human figures, as indicated by the engraved arms and hands on their surfaces. However, this is the first time that a pillar directly portrays a human face.

What an interesting pile of carbonised neolithic era grain.
merryn02.bsky.social
There's a question that I would love to ask: is it malted? Because when I look closely at this batch of carbonised grain I can see that there's some damage, several missing embryos (the more you look the more you see) and this might perhaps indicate what sort of processing this grain has undergone.

Rye straw. Almost as tall as me! Here's where I start, with half a bundle of rye. It will be made into baskets of various sizes and I'll save a few seed heads to sow next year. #rye #straw #Orkney #strawwork
A bundle of harvested rye on the ground beside a storm battered garden, it is about five feet long.

Still rather intrigued by this Bronze Age food vessel style pot, with a handle. It doesn't look like a it would work as a drinking vessel. What was it for? It was found in a child's grave (age unknown). Lovely little pot. @cotswoldarch.bsky.social?

Awww gosh thanks, I'll post pictures. I'm looking forward to hearing the two (almost three) year old granddaughter say 'turtles and tortoises' when she gets them for Christmas.

Thank you, I do follow a pattern though. I'm going to make some with flippers, so I have tortoises and turtles.
