I've been on an SFX crew, the 2nd tech is usually paying more attention to the AD/Director, while the 1st tech focuses on the effect.

The AD can move his hands to indicate "more" or "keep going", the 2nd tech quietly delivers that info with little pats or whatever.

Plus it's nice.

I have never cared for the "You were lucky to get out of there." dialog change."

"You're lucky you don't taste very good." is better in every single way.
