Yesterday I started working with indices de catastro. These are alphabetic lists of property owners, their property, transactions, and property values. #Guadalajara #Mexico #sources #history #skystorians #archives #Urban The archivist had to clean off the books because she says nobody consults them.

Guillermo O'Donnell wrote this 26 years ago in an edited collection about the rule of law in Latin America. The Rule of Law is a complicated idea (see Whigs and Hunters), but generally it helps prevent civil decay and unrest. #RuleOfLaw

😡Bean counter changing a writing intensive class capped @ 20 students to 30 saying "Y'all need to generate at least 528 student credit hours/yr" (quarter system).

Me, a full professor: Last year I taught that class generating 40 SCH along with an additional 1,009 SCH. El cucuy te espera, contador.

Some Amish police?

A silly but telling moment in the limitations of the machines and their exclusion / erasure of native societies and languages (be it the butchering of place names or the absence of other history and knowledge).

Sammamish police.

Yes, to endear yourself to establishment Dems you should have spent 1964 as a Goldwater Girl and the next 60 years cozying up to corporations.

4/ the Mexican Cultural Studies class has been a great way to give myself license to read more Mexican authors in genres I don't normally get to. I'll be doing this again in fall 2026 (after spending all year in Mexico next year).

Here is the full list for this year.

Several hundred million at our campus alone for solar panels and the geothermal heat pumps. Awesome! Down the road the K-12 has decided to offset that by bringing AI tutors into the classroom. Not awesome.

Using @isanchezprado.bsky.social 's book club, and this is the selection of books. Curious to see how students do with this set. This is the second time I'm using this approach. I did this with the Intro to Lat Am studies course and it went very well. Let's see how the Mexico class does.
