I care a little too much about transit

Co-Lead of Fix The L8
Crystal just announced that opening day is Saturday! Parking will be restricted to 500 vehicles 7-days a week through end of January though to reduce traffic on 410.

Detour shouldn't be that bad with the temporary bridge, right? One extra turn but otherwise only adds less than a quarter mile to the route.

Crystal gets halfway there with a free shuttle between Enumclaw and the resort. Their parking reservation system also means that you can now reliably guarantee that you'll have a parking spot although traffic can still be a nightmare.

RIP To the Mountain Shuttle though

Link ridership has changed a lot since they conducted this study. Lynnwood now has higher ridership than Northgate and Federal Way could repeat this.

It's great we're expending so fast that a year-old study is outdated, but hopefully ST takes another look at ridership numbers for station selection.

The forecast is currently showing that the next atmospheric river next week will be dumping snow on the resorts. I'd keep it as long as that forecast holds. I only skied a single day before Chrismas last season but still ended up getting 16 days in between Crystal and Snoqualmie.

Stub line adds 2+ years of delays so Ballard would be the last ST3 project to open and we'd still need all the other OMF space. Even if it opened sooner, there'd be no way to get trains from Ballard OMF onto the spine without the full tunnel

The OMF would be tiny anyways with how short the line is

They don't even use the express tracks! The conductor just announces "We're skipping the next stop. If that's your stop get off here and transfer to the train 2 minutes behind us" and rolls through the next station without even slowing down.

ST could do the same but it'd probably cause chaos

That makes sense, was thinking it would be really hard to improve headways coming back but would definitely still help down the line.

Another really cool thing MTA does to reduce bunching (even during normal ops) is having trains skip stations if they're getting full and holding up ones behind it.
December 11, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Ah I see, ya you'd definitely get more capacity out of pulsing trains even if you don't get more frequent headways.

I think our switches per station are similar to NYC's (other than DSTT) but their stations are a lot closer together so we have fewer switches per mile and therefore longer headways.
December 11, 2025 at 7:08 PM
Oh, interesting. Maybe they "pulse" trains in each directions and say send 3 trains at a time in each direction every 20 minutes rather than 1 train every 15?

That could get pretty frequent headways but not sure how you'd consolidate again them coming back without delaying a bunch of trains.
December 11, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Isn't that also how ST handles things? I've definitely boarded a train going the "wrong" direction during single tracking before and we also have switches every 2-3 stations if not more.

I think the main benefit MTA has is quad tracks so they can send empty trains ahead on the express tracks.

Signs at Angle Lake don't have the airport symbol

bsky.app/profile/mesm...
Angle Lake station does not have the airport logo on the southbound platform, so I guess the airport is somewhere between SeaTac and Angle Lake stations (which is technically true).

Doing my part for the buses! Let’s fix the L8!!!! @fixthel8.bsky.social
A common excuse we hear for SDOT's refusal to install bus lanes on Denny is that WSDOT could be opposing them. However, @juliareedwa.bsky.social checked, and WSDOT is “unconcerned” about potential impacts to I-5 traffic. The state’s ready to talk bus lanes on Denny, lets get them built!

David Scott (Seattle Subway c4 president) has been advocating for this!

The number of people who don't take transit due to safety concerns is eclipsed by those who do so because of speed or convenience, both of which would be improved by more bus service.

I'd expect this number to drop sharply soon.

Some people I got to cure their ballots over the weekend still haven't had their status updated yet. About half the people I spoke to today had also already cured their ballot but it hadn't been verified yet.

Katie Wilson doesn't own a car and is the founder / executive director for the Transit Rider's Union.

She's made 2 campaign videos calling for bus lanes on Denny Way while Bruce Harrell killed bike safety improvements on Lake Washington Blvd.

Katie is the clear pro-transit and pro-cycling choice.
