Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours and remembers the children who were forced into Canada's Residential School system.
It was first observed as Orange Shirt Day in 2013 and was elevated to a statutory holidy for federal workers in 2021.

Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides): 53cm (21in). This is a species of frogmouth native to the Australian mainland & Tasmania. It is a big-headed, stocky bird, often mistaken for an owl due to nocturnal habits & similar colouring. Fantastic image taken by David Ashley in Perth, Western Australia.

From Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier’s poem ‘Diction,’ a fragmented account of the massacre at Wounded Knee that communicates the immeasurable loss.
A poem with staggered, right-aligned text. The layout creates a visual flow, with individual words and phrases emphasizing reflection and contemplation.

"Our Country and Our Culture" Symposium in Partisan Review.

U.S. intellectuals debate cultural independence now that U.S. "can no longer fully depend on Europe as cultural example and source of vitality."

Norman Mailer disagrees, says without Europe, U.S. is McCarthy.

Today I stumbled across this nice little Béla Bartók monument at his old house in Manhattan.
Bust of a man mounted on a stone wall with a bronze plaque below. The plaque honors his home in this building during his final year of life.
