Petro Poulos kept watch over a hot griddle of halibut filets during the busy Saturday night dinner rush at the Deluxe Restaurant, but he was keenly aware that his life would change in a mere few days.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years. Most people retire after 30 years,” he said as he ran a spatula across the sizzling grill.
“It’s going to be sad,” he said. “It’s going to hurt for a while, but nothing is forever.”
On Wednesday night he and his mother Pat Poulos and sister Stacy Poulos will close the iconic restaurant at 21 W. North St. and turn over the 77-year-old business to a new owner.

New: the federal government has dropped its case against Ray Collins and Jocelyne Robledo, a couple who had faced felony charges for allegedly assaulting federal agents during a protest outside the Broadview ICE facility on Sept. 27.

The govt moved to drop its complaint against them this morning.

JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11
