Trump 2.0 + 8 months. The slow down in clean energy manufacturing investments is still growing.

We are tracking 50 slowed projects adding up to $51.8B in investment and 50,381 jobs - up from 39 projects, $41.8B, and 42,429 jobs last month.

More on what has slowed and advanced below. 🔌💡

MA utility's are adopting heat pump rates that reflect that winter-time heat pump use doesn't drive peak demand (which comes in summer).

This impressive study from @jpv.switch.box .box makes the case for why this make sense, and why the utility's should do yet more. www.switch.box/mahprates

At The Big Green Machine, my @wellesley.edu students and I are tracking more than 600 clean energy manufacturing projects in North America.

Let us know what we are missing, what is wrong, and what needs updating. 🔌💡

Some major projects have slowed this month.

Natron Energy, which aimed to expand domestic manufacturing of sodium-ion batteries, ceased operations, halting operations at its Michigan plant and scuttling plans for its North Carolina gigafactory.

The North Carolina plant would have expanded the company’s capacity 40 times over. Its facilities in Michigan and California have also closed.

Headlining the projects that advanced last month is Rivian’s factory in Georgia, which broke ground on September 16.

The $6.6 billion factory employing 7500 people will be able to manufacture 200,000 EVs a year when phase one goes into production in 2028.

Since Trump took office, 80 projects adding up to $43.8B in investment and 50,813 job have advanced. Most are projects previously announced that have started construction or moved into production.

Only 33 new projects adding up to $8B and 13,310 jobs have been announced since Trump took office.
Chart plotting when clean energy manufacturing projects were announced and, for those that have been canceled, paused, or closed, when the disinvestment occurred (this chart excludes projects have just been delayed or reduced in size). It shows a big boom in project announcements during Biden administration and surge of disinvestment since Trump took office.
