I'm really proud of my mom - her short memoir piece was published in Craft literary magazine. It is weird to read about people you know as if they were fictional though....... www.craftliterary.com/2025/08/13/o...

FEMA has the capacity to do top notch rescue and response. But not under Secretary Noem. She shut down the emergency phone system days after the floods. She sent only a few dozen rescue workers when the state had nearly 2000 of it's own people doing that work. A woeful response.

You need to know what's going on at "Alligator Alcatraz."

It's grossly immoral - no human being should be treated like that.

It's political theater - many of the detainees have no criminal record.

It's a taxpayer funded boondoggle - enriching DeSantis's political cronies.

So what's next after today's May Day mobilizations?

On June 14, Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday.

But real power isn't staged in DC. It rises up everywhere else. That's why we're planning a nationwide day of action to say No Kings. 🧵

SO true. so how do we build a better order? That's the real question.
Animating too much absolutely sensible outrage at Trumpism is an appeal to parental figures who aren’t there. “He should not be allowed”; “He should be arrested”; “This can’t be permitted.” Passive voice, all of which begs, “by whom?” It’s an appeal to an order that has already broken.

I don't check the news for two days and now we're shipping American babies off to other countries for the crime of having an immigrant parent? I was born in the US to an immigrant parent. AS WERE Trump's own kids. But our immigrant moms came from Europe so......
Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation.

I’m not sure what it is. A kidnapping?

When Trump said he would consider deporting US citizens, he wasn’t joking.

And he’s starting with American babies.

If he can deport a single citizen without due process, he can do it to anyone.

And if he comes for your baby, it won’t matter if you voted for him or not.

When you ask us Jews to inform the government of our status, it tends not to end well… if true, this is beyond disturbing. Again, never forget, Trump is NOT a friend of the Jews. He is using us as pawns in his game of authoritarian chess.
