Today is the Anniversary of the Battle of Arras in 1917 which included the Canadian Corps assault on Vimy Ridge. The Vimy Memorial is one of the most impressive on the Western Front and I never tire in trying to capture its beauty and sadness.

In game theory, a smaller player can win against a bigger adversary, but only if the smaller player is more committed to imposing costs and is willing to bear pain.
The goal is to make US stop their tariffs. That happens if Trump feels pain. If some smart counter-tariffs increase his pain, then it is worth it *even if the temporary pain on our own consumers is greater* because it gets the US tariffs to stop.

It can be smart to take losses to achieve a goal.

You know, there’s a reason so many Canadians sew little flags to our backpacks when we travel around Europe in our 20s.

"Trudeau’s reign deliberately abandoned both Canada’s Anglo-Protestant past and the cautious multiculturalism that succeeded it" is a sentence that makes four distinct claims — and each one of them is completely, entirely, and totally wrong.
