I am deeply disturbed by the shooting in Utah. Doug and I send our prayers to Charlie Kirk and his family.

Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence.

Oh look, it’s totally possible for a world leader to issue an amazingly human statement on this whole mess. What a concept.

A new statement from the Prime Minister of Australia begins with “The situation in Gaza has gone beyond the world's worst fears.”

Do republicans not realize the police and fire departments they often champion are just socialized property protection (and healthcare, for that matter)?

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Few Americans know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

I think progressives have had a problem with "purity tests" (the need for all leaders to have tightly aligned perspectives or else stay quiet about it)

And I think the Democratic Party has had a problem with being...undemocratic - with too much power in the institution and not in the people.

Do republicans not realize that fire and police departments are socialized property protection? Seems like they would be all worked up about that.

Excellent thread that walks through the issues with DOGE in a way that any American that cares one ounce about democracy should agree with. Well worth the read.
To all those saying "shouldn't we root out government inefficiency? What's wrong with DOGE?" a quick background on Constitutional law and why the WAY it is being violated exposes the true motives of the criminals:

Jeffries: The constitution requires the president has the responsibility to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. Spending agreements passed through the appropriations process are law. When those laws are violated, the constitution has been violated.

Barely three days into Trump 2.0 and one thing is clear: Wherever & whenever possible - state & local govt, corporations, nonprofits, PTAs, soccer leagues, whatever - leaders will need to be *even more* compassionate, inclusive, authentic, & genuine.

People are going to be starved for it.

Obviously the energy footprint of AI is not to be ignored - it’s significant. But context is also important. If I shave 30 seconds off of *one* shower, that probably saves enough energy for a whole year or more of my ChatGPT use. There are far better targets than AI when it comes to carbon impact.

Thinking that everything simply must be profitable is such a wild concept. Things that better a society are profitable no matter what the numbers on the page say.
Let’s be clear. Privatization of the post office will mean some addresses simply will not be covered because they are unprofitable. Think of it like our private healthcare system.
