Something that's been going on for a while now. This is Einstein writing in 1949...

Paragraph from Why Socialism? by Albert Einstein. It reads: "This crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his future career."

Watching so many people in high places go through the motions of polling and median-voter whispering can make you feel like you're in Bodysnatchers. It's worth a reminder that the typical experience of tyranny is...basically normal life. Which means we have to will ourselves to fight harder.
The Median Experience Of Tyranny
If the politics of tyranny were self-discrediting, we wouldn't need mantras like "never again."

Donald Trump is tilting at windmills. NEVER lose sight of that. He’s inviting us all into his hallucinated world. Reject the invitation.

Like, you can go to Chicago or Portland or DC and see people out walking their dogs or getting coffee and just going about their days with your own eyes, and yet a decent part of the country thinks they're war zones. It's the wildest shit. Trump has been disfigured reality, and that's real power.

Real power is telling people not to believe their lying eyes and they actually go along with it. No ideology is can escape reality indefinitely, but it has been wild to see how successful he's been in getting people to go along with a narrative that you could charitably describ as bullshit 2/3

Trump 2.0 is a lesson in power. Trump's real power stems from the ability to warp collective reality to suit his purposes. He's bent our perceptions to the point where major media outlets are credulously going along with his "Blue cities under siege" framing. 1/3

When I say MAGA is post-truth, one of the things I mean is the movement—along with its fellow travelers and apologists—approaches the world insisting that there’s no such thing as factual reality, there are only words and images that are good or bad for one’s team.

I am following this debut, and I don’t know anyone who can explain why an opinion journalist has been chosen as Editor-in-Chief. Did we need more opinion at CBS?

Not an expert on this stuff but I have the sense that no one backing Weiss understands that what she has done her whole career, opinion-based news-flavored content, is distinct from news reporting.

“When Miller’s bald head started to glow red from the hatred he was spitting out, you could feel the air shift in the room, a quiet recognition that cruelty wasn’t just policy for him, it was personal. It’s the exact look you see on TV today, the same venom disguised as conviction.”

Chicago isn’t a battlefield. But Trump is making it one.
Now he’s threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act, to use the U.S. military against Americans. This isn’t about immigrants or crime. It’s about power. And once fear becomes law, it never stops where it starts.
The Insurrection Act and the War at Home
Fear, force, and the line America has crossed.

Again, Trump is a symptom of a larger disease.

Whether it's him or someone else, conditions right now necessitate the wealth class embracing a fascist project. You have to look beyond him and see it's not an aberration but an evolution that we must stop.

Fascism in America will not stop unless we stop it and that means coming together in collective action to shift the paradigm and begin answering the material conditions that created this crisis.

Seeing how this system works make it obvious. It will continue until we stop it.

I strongly object to the comparison many are making these days between Stephen Miller and Joseph Goebbels.

I think it's deeply misguided, and unfair, to compare them.

Goebbels was a far better propagandist, and didn't execute much policy.

Miller far more closely resembles Heinrich Himmler.

This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power by the President of the United States.

America is on the brink of martial law.

Do not be silent.

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

The regime is acting this way because there are no consequences so it is clear that consequences—the development of them, the advocacy for them, the imposition on bad behavior—are the answer to our crisis.
