You can—should—condemn the act itself. Guns are absolutely a problem and this continues to highlight that fact. You can also not be sympathetic to to the person impacted due to their actions and deeds. Both can be true

RIP Graham Greene. Every time he popped up on screen when I was a kid, my mom would excitedly point him out for being an actual Native on the screen. Able to be deadly serious and infinitely hilarious (even in smaller roles like Last of Us), he ate up the screen. Nʌki’wah brother.

Related, I see a lot of gnashing of teeth at how similar Ghost of Yotei looks to Tsushima. Like, yeah dog, Tsushima came out in 2020. Do you -want- every game to take eight years? Sometimes iteration is the cure rather than a symptom.
