Scientist, husband, father, and all-around nerd.
One of my favorite things about being a scientist has been the opportunity to meat and become friends with scientists from around the world. They came here for opportunity and freedom. Now that's changing.

We will feel the impact of these cuts for a generation or more.
If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut Education and Science Research the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

The greatest concerns in the country revolve around the economy. This year the US willhave negative immigration. An economist explains how the health of the US economy is linked to robust immigration. This has been true since the birth of our nation.

Science, it's like magic but REAL.
Scientists have developed a framework that can enable a team of cooperative aerial robots to navigate tight spaces and obstacles at high speeds while carrying cable-suspended loads.

One more reason for mandatory single payer health care in the US. If you have insurance you won't be paying retail and if you can't afford insurance you're not going to be able to afford medications that can make you better.
Paxlovid from Pfizer costs $15 to make and now retails for $1500.

He doesn't know the only reason that patented drugs are more expensive in the US than the rest of the world is that we do not regulate the price of drugs while protected by patents.

A fundamental tenant of science is clearly distinguishing what we know from what we believe.
Jay Bhattacharya claims scientists 'politicized science.'

He's a liar. He did that, appearing on Fox and other rightwing outlets and endlessly attacking science to help Republicans blame COVID negative effects on others.

Now he's going to this political hack conference. Feh.

The damage being done to the US healthcare system extends beyond reduced access to care, increased costs for care and insurance and the war on medical research. It now includes violence against health care workers. The only uncertainty now is the number of lives that will be lost.
How many more people will be killed by our federal public health officials?

We've known about all the problems with animal models of human disease, since I was a grad student, 40 years ago. There just weren't any better alternatives. Now there are. We're not going to completely eliminate the use of lab animals anytime soon, but we can dramatically reduce it now.
Nicole Kleinstreuer, who has worked at NIH for nearly a decade, was thrust into the spotlight when she was chosen to help lead a new office working to reduce the use of animals in NIH-funded research.

But she has drawn the ire of an advocacy group and its fervent followers. https://scim.ag/4oPjaIL

This would be an obvious example to critique in a basic data science course.

Based on data not publicly available.

Contrary to well validated methods.

Little or no documentation on analytical methods.
