If in Bristol Thursday October 16 you might be interested in a free book event I’ll be doing at Small Bar, 7 for 7.30, where I’ll be talking about ‘A Pub For All Seasons’ and reading from it - I’ll also have paperback copies which I’ll be selling for a tenner (rrp £12.99) and signing, interested?

My all-time favourite children's TV series. I was 10 at the time it was broadcast and still occasionally watch it today.

Red Lion is good, of course. Others I liked depended more on need at the time rather than the actual merits of the pub! I remember Baker's Arms at Somerford Keynes and Baskerville Arms at Lower Shiplake ticked the right boxes at the time, while some more obviously attractive pubs disappointed.

Best not to rush these things.

There's a reason for doing the Thames Path – very few hills!

There will be something … and hopefully it won't take as long.

Slight problem. The earliest pub entries would now be 10 years out of date!

NBC aired the first episode of 'The Monkees' on this day in 1966.
Micky, Mike, Peter and Davy are positioned around the Monkee Computer in the bay window area of their fantastic house. Looks like they've received their assignment to either rescue the princess-of-the-week or find some priceless jewel. Maybe both.

Went to my first ever gig on this day 50 years ago (unless you count seeing Tom Jones when I was three and a half). I sent off a postal order (£1.50) and an SAE, and the tickets came back a few days later. This ticket stub for the gig is currently selling for £80 on Tracks. Anyone want to buy mine?
Ticket stub for concert by Paul McCartney and Wings at Cardiff Capitol Theatre, 11 September 1975, price £1.50.
