The Slasher Olympics heralds the start of this year's Hallowmeme Countdown.
🎃
The 6 panel Bronze Medal meme. The top left panel shows an athlete bowing his head to receive his medal, but the athlete is now Freddy Krueger. The top right panel shows him biting down on the medal. The middle left panel shows him kissing the woman who placed the medal around his neck. The middle right panel shows him shouting with joy as he sticks up two middle fingers. The bottom left panel has him opening a lively bottle of Champagne. The bottom right panel shows him spraying his face with Champagne as he chugs from the bottle. He's standing on the 3rd place podium, which features the number 45+ (his rough killcount). Michael Myers is standing on the 2nd place podium with a killcount of 150+. On the 1st place podium is Jason Voorhees, with an approximate killcount of 160+. Before anyone dives in to tell me that, actually, I'm wrong because so-and-so has killed more people than such-and-such, I don't care. I looked at numerous sites that claim to have answered this exact question, and Michael and Jason often swap places, so I just went with the character I like more.

Today's Hallowmeme is bit of a rush job as we're about to head to the coast so I can throw rocks at the North Sea.
The "Golden Ticket" meme which shows Charlie Bucket looking excited as he holds up a winning golden ticket for a trip to Willy Wonka's Murder Emporium, but the golden ticket is now a page from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis from "The Evil Dead" (1981), and Chuck's now a Deadite.

Reading an article about the billionaire bunker boys, and this paragraph is pretty much what everyone has been saying about the most obvious outcome, yet the super rich still seem oblivious, or too egotistical, to understand that, if it does all go to shit, they're immediately surplus to requirement
From the BBC article about the mega wealthy building their Apocalypse bunkers in the far-flung corners of the globe: "But there's a distinctly human flaw. I once met a former bodyguard of one billionaire with his own "bunker", who told me his security team's first priority, if this really did happen, would be to eliminate said boss and get in the bunker themselves. And he didn't seem to be joking."

I mean, why would anyone, as a well-trained survivor, take orders from someone who serves no purpose other than to act as a drain on precious resources?

It's a Takashi Mike movie, and this is a relatively tame scene in comparison to the rest of the film. If you like vampires, kaiju and lots of punching, this is definitely for you.

Scrappy-Doo. Godzuki had the good grace to keep his mouth shut, except when he was blowing smoke rings or going "muuuurgh" to call his uncle.

Not saying it's the same frog, but they're clearly related. The scary bit comes when they take the costume off.

Saw what appeared to be a painting of a magpie on the ground, but on closer inspection it might just be some random dirt. Its eye is a ladybird that decided to sit there.

I am normally very anti-people talking in the cinema during the film, except in this one instance

When he went to delete all of his uncool YouTube videos so that he could reinvent himself as a skateboard film auteur the woman sitting next to me gasped "noooo, just set them to private!"

Anyone free on actual Halloween night? Come to Whitby, I'll guide you gently through memories of 1970s/80s Halloweens ("The sky is blue, the grass is green") and there'll be music, dressing up, sweets etc. I might even do the "Witches of Halloween" song from 'Words and Pictures'. A fiver. A FIVER!

I've been adding to my mid-century linework collection (that definition encompasses the fifties, sixties and seventies as far as I'm concerned) - specifically anything that features the work of Margery Gill, which I've become a little bit obsessed with. This beauty turned up today. #illustration

I was amazed recently to discover an orchestral piece by Vaughan Williams that I'd never heard before. It was performed just once in his lifetime (12/11/1907). It's no Tallis Fantasia (the main influences are still Germanic - folk song and English hymnody hadn't really kicked in) but still ...

The title was easily its biggest mistake, because it's a decent stab at a great little story.

"Can I come with you?"

'Screamers' (1995).
The boy-that-isn't-a-boy opens its mouth far wider than you'd like, revealing twin sets of pointed steel teeth, as it stares at you with glowing eyes.

A fond get well soon to both of you.

Oct 9th - Former Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus, using Professor Hugo Fassbender's doomsday weapon, disintegrates the United Nations headquarters. He then blackmails the President into having Inspector Clouseau assassinated.

4 Screenshots from the movie "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" (1976): First, a close-up of a man on a vintage television screen with subtitles reading "On Saturday, October 9th the United Nations building." Second, a continuation of the television scene with the man saying "will vanish from the face of the earth." Third, a futuristic control room with a large laser device pointing out a window towards mountains, people observing the scene. Fourth, a cityscape with a laser beam emitting a bright pink light over the skyline.

Having grown up with the very real newspaper headlines of an (alleged) poltergeist in Enfield, the 2nd film is still my favourite, but the kid-scoffing tree at the end is such a laughable addition. It's like they were obliged to include a cameo from the tree in "Poltergeist" due to legal reasons.

Last Rites was okay, if a little too long, but the entire series has a way of generating early dread with flashes of the horrors that await, before it all comes undone in the 2nd half when they finally manifest & start jogging around, waving, eating hot dogs & generally getting too much screen time.
