Funny what things bother me (maybe you too?). This TBS announcer Brian Anderson has been saying the Dodgers-Phillies game started in "late afternoon," but the game began at 3pm, which I consider "mid-afternoon." Late afternoon is 4pm-6pm, after which we're into "early evening." (more: alt text)
It's 4pm right now, so it's okay to maybe say "late afternoon" now -- but I'd even hold off for another hour or so. But maybe that's just me. This photo was taken at "sunset," which means it's as the sun is going down. Today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, the sun will set in Los Angeles at 6:25 p.m., during which you can call it the sunset, but after the sun sets it's "early evening." Disagree?
