Anyone have additional information on this?
It appears that #Lethbridge mayoral candidate Ryan Mennie was once a Campbell River City Councilor who moved back to Lethbridge & continued to attend council meetings, via Zoom, while getting paid? 1/4

Speaking of theatres that #OughtToBeHaunted, here’s one that actually is.

The Empress Theatre, in Fort Macleod, Alberta, was built in 1912. I have it on the best authority (@jimmykeelo.bsky.social, no less) that ‘live’ performances aren’t all that happen here….
A small but stately theatre exterior, in dark brick with white accents. Signage above the multiple ground level doors reads “Empress”. protruding vertical bands of brick on either side simulate Classical pilasters. The interior of a small theatre, showing rows of seats divided by two aisles, facing a raised stage with an array of stage lighting hanging from the ceiling above.

I like Al, but I would have to agree. A leave would have been the proper choice

@charlesrusnell.bsky.social spoke to my class yesterday—great session!
I asked him @ Al Beeber running campaign ads while still writing for the #Lethbridge Herald.👇
“You can’t be a politician AND a journalist,” and he said a leave of absence should have been mandatory.
Call 403-328-4411 to complain.

Beeber's ad at the bottom of the page says he is a voice that can be trusted - did he pay for the ad or did his employer give him the space for free or at a cut rate? This is the obvious sort of conflict of interest questions that arise.

In August, the Herald stated that they would not publish any candidate 'Letters to the Editor,' which is their prerogative as a private business.

However, letting a employee-candidate continue to write stories AND create this situation is not a good look.

This is SO wrong!! 👇
A campaign ad & Al's byline on the same page raise concerns about conflict of interest, abuse of media power, fair election practices, the ability to provide balanced coverage, credibility & trust.
This isn't right, @scottsakatch.bsky.social.

He was the same way in Lethbridge.

It was like the class clown MCing something for the cool kids… except he was a bully and the panellists laughed along with his glibness and insults.

But - yeah - the Panel was about “listening to Albertans”

I think it's important to acknowledge learning moments: for some reason, up until literally one minute ago, I falsely believed that Canada and the US alternated command over NORAD.
plagasse.bsky.social
For those who are unawares, the Commander of NORAD is always an American and has operational control of Canadian NORAD forces.

That's not just some thing that we do. It's a treaty-level agreement.
