Wow - what a story and you got to be part of RPG history. Was it found in the Smokies or out in New Mexico? I read it was found at some solar observatory in NM, but was it out East instead?

The root game, The Fantasy Trip (TFT), was originally published by Metagaming, authored by Steve Jackson - who left in 1980 from a dispute over TFT. Unable to reacquire TFT, SJ created GURPS. SJ regained his rights to TFT about a decade ago.

Is there then a Golden Unicorn statue still undiscovered from an early 1980s RPG contest?

Its unknown - was it recovered during Metagaming bankruptcy proceedings? Was it found in the intervening years and is out there somewhere on Ebay?

Consult your local oracle for answers.

The successful treasure hunter for the Treasure of the Silver Dragon was a UT grad student, Thomas Davidson. Metagaming was disappointed it only took weeks to solve, and a 2nd treasure hunt, for a golden unicorn, was done.

No one ever found the unicorn before Metagaming went out of business!

Also good as once I cut the cord of cable, I lost TCM. Even before that, my cable company had moved TCM into a premium tier. They just don't have the viewership they once did. I wouldn't want these culturally important and fun cartoons exclusive to TCM.

Railway mags for lads do tend to focus on locomotives too much. After all, the centerpiece of every good layout is the tunnel, and maybe some small hills.

As we talk about horror and comic books, Boom Studios said "Hold my beer"

Same here! It was a pretty good toy. The two side blaster cannon things were liable to fall or break off, if I recall, but othewise pretty solid. Actually, Kenner Star Wars toys were pretty rugged (more so than Mego figures with internal rubber bands).

Good points. Different media, and you have to play to their strengths. Jump scares also lose impact without musical cues and the screaming / crashing, etc. Yet comics can do body horror well from EC comics to Professor Pyg. And it can do the horror text-only books do too.

Enjoy! I've enjoyed my Traveller games in the past.

And even the TIE fighter - let's make the easiest target possible with big square sides for no apparent reason (they aren't solar panels, are they?)

This is just such a fun cover! Fat snowmen shouting 'we are invincible' is just too much

Haha! True. And look at that Bespin cloud city car later in the movie. No wings there either. Ya just gotta shrug.
