As I say, what it does is generate a statistically-plausible text. It will thus be wrong regularly, to pretty much any question, because it's not even really trying to be right.

No, they're there to generate plausible text. They generally gather no information, and are wrong far more than any reasonable textbook.

The only remotely decent use-case I've seen is a robot that can accompany children in radiotherapy, where other humans can't - but that could have a much simpler ai and still work.
