The data nerd in you may appreciate knowing that all official DOT parking regulation signs have a sign code on them at the bottom.

and... of course there is open data to match.

I appreciate the choice of photo by @thecity.nyc

This is sign SP-105C and a version in red is SP-145C - there is only one of each left up on the streets of NYC. (There were five left back in 2017 when I started tracking this sign)

I don’t see much talk of expanding zoning that allows first floor retail - I know it’s difficult with general housing shortage - but could help mitigate commercial rent increases (assuming that’s what’s happening here not union busting).

I don’t travel to SOHO for may stores, but do for this one

I have published 311 satisfaction data so you might be curious how I ranked this response.

"Neutral" because no consequences were had, but NYPD did respond and take action and give detail. If this wasn't a recurring issue I would rank it "Agree" because of the detailed response.

Ahh yes the old "TAXI THATS BEING COMPLAINED ABOUT IS BEING WORKED ON." justification for parking an unlicensed vehicle on the street.

At least this part of the response is appropriate "A PLATE WAS PUT ON THE CAR AND MOVED OFF THE STREET"
jehiah.cz
For good measure I reported the vehicle across the street without a license plate. 311-24692965

One of the most curious phenomenon in parking enforcement. The I-got-a-ticket-might-as-well-stay-in-this-spot-forever.

Three vehicles ticketed yesterday still present.
jehiah.cz
If you think about it it makes sense. Moving violations written by a cop go against the driver not the vehicle.
jehiah.cz
To be fair, aside from parking and camera violations against this vehicle we just don’t know what moving violations this driver has received.

Civilians filed 5,052 311 reports for illegal parking in Aug 2025 in MANHATTAN. NYPD resolved 23.3% as "summons issued". This percentage has gone up almost every month for 12 months from 13.4% Sept 2025.

311 Illegal Parking Reports with "Summons Issued" Response
Analysis of NYC 311 illegal parking complaints and the percentage that resulted in summons being issued.

I’ve reported this many times before - had a decent response a week ago - and even better one today.

Also data shows responses in Manhattan improving steadily over the past year. More to share soon.

I had a really good experience today with a follow up call from the MTN Q team (quality of life) in regard to chronic vehicles on 44th st without license plates. Proactive offer to follow up, and receptive to issues with double parking at this location.

I appreciate @cmrestler.bsky.social lead on this class of issue, but this isn’t just a downtown brooklyn issue. This is a citywide issue and we need a council speaker that will take action.

Our office released a new study highlighting rampant illegal parking across Downtown Brooklyn. Vehicles block sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes & loading zones - making it more dangerous for New Yorkers to get around the neighborhood.

Gee, I wonder why I can’t ever get a response from NYPD to address this car wash putting vehicles on the sidewalk constantly.

Just like this driver was angry that I was on a bike in the bike lane 🤦🏻‍♂️

“Are you going to go or not” lady yells 20x after I put her a timeout for driving in the 11th Ave bike lane.
jehiah.cz
I had parenting duties calling so this was the world’s shortest timeout of about 2 minutes.

Such a thing might get me in trouble with my spouse, but I love it.
jehiah.cz
She followed me for three blocks. You need at least a bollard at every block (or more) and I’m convinced it has downsides and is just another form of forcing car infrastructure onto everyone else.

I am also in camp “bike lanes should be wide enough to ride side-by-side in” and it’s an enforcement issue to keep drivers out of that.
jehiah.cz
There is some nuance I want to try to capture: pre-congestion pricing this happened for hours twice a week minimum with dozens of vehicles.

Now with congestion pricing at best this happens half a dozen times a year and this traffic cleared within the hour so it’s also shorter lived.
jehiah.cz
Full video of driver following me in the protected bike lane for three blocks and somehow being mad at *me* for being in the bike lane…. on a bike.
jehiah.cz
Sounds fine at first but also means no winter maintenance. No street sweeping, and without it being a common design bollards in bike lanes do cause injuries to cyclists and conflict.

Drivers need to change. The bike lane isn’t the problem, it shouldn’t necessarily bear the burden of fixing culture
