1) this article is about the legislation mandating conductors, which would only impact existing weekend G trains with OPTO

2) a slow phase in of OPTO on CBTC lines based on attrition and voluntary retraining would result in zero firings

like, the head of the MTA only gets paid around $400K; he was almost certainly making millions in his private sector job before that

meanwhile, hundreds of rank and file MTA employees get paid *more* than most MTA execs due to extremely generous overtime pay rules

Three MTA employees collected more than the CEO Janno Lieber's total pay of $420,599.
Edwin Lee from Bridges & Tunnels topped both the overtime and total year-to-date pay lists. The others were are:
• Orlando Caholo, Sergeant, Bridges & Tunnels, Total Pay: $474,255, OT:
$304,884
• Robert Rau, Lieutenant Detective, MTA
Police, Total Pay: $146,465, OT: $218,494
421 MTA employees collected more than
Governor Hochul's 2024 salary of $250,000, and 325 collected more than NYC Mayor's 2024 salary of $258,750.

This stuff is everywhere on social media, especially for the MTA in New York.

I know folks at the MTA who could make 2x as much in the private sector but work there bc they are passionate about improving transit, and yet every reply is about how the MTA is stealing money to fund executive salaries
