the state of texas pulled a 13-year-old trans boy out of class and subjected him to the same questioning that kids get when they're molested because his parents accepted him. it's what's happening, and it shouldn't be considered activism to say it.

Amid a lengthy court battle, legal advocates for the LGBTQ community say Texas continues to investigate parents providing gender-affirming care to their children.

My working theory is that RFK Jr is a situation like Oogie Boogie in Nightmare Before Christmas, a bunch of nasty disgusting bugs wearing a suit. That's why his voice and face and soul are like that

they think they can just erase trans joy and trans freedom. they can't. they can make things a lot harder and more painful. but that joy and that freedom is not theirs to take and it is incumbent on all good people to say so.

1. The situation in Florida is growing more tense with the erasure of Pride crosswalks.

After state officials painted over the Pulse Memorial sidewalk in Orlando, Florida Citizens painted them back.

Now the state has sent 7 squad cars to stare at the crosswalk.

"Age verification" laws are actually "upload your ID or get your face scanned to access every website, ending anonymity and associating your identity with everything you do online" laws and if more people understood that they would not be down for this authoritarian nonsense

Does that make sense?

You are young1 and in Hallmark a lot.
Envelope color is so important. The aisles
go on so long. You worry you have never loved anyone.2
One summer you say this,3 and it is a hoot.
Now that’s just silly. Look at that boy.4 Always
some foil and always a chance to choose a better
envelope, but make sure it’s from the same section.5
Later you wonder where you’ll hide gifts when you’re old.
You’ll require access to the laundry room cabinet forever.
You hug your father and he smells like the world.6
Car ride bingo7 asks you to locate a bird and it’s like
sorry, are you being serious right now?

1 I am talking googoo gaga
2 OK maybe not absolute googoo gaga but very small
3 This is before the implementation of Nighttime Worry Hour. You voice such things in the middle of the day! Under fluorescent lights! God!
4 Boy In Store is a primal archetype: Buzz cut, red lips, shirt with licensed IP.*
5 The wedding anniversary envelopes are cuntiest. All pearlized and embossed. They wink at you.
6 A little unknowable, a little scary, but only in a first step on an escalator kind of way. He makes you sandwiches and composts in the backyard. Friendly, sophisticated, mystical, large.**
7 One of those cardboard slabs with little square cutouts. In each cutout is something you’re supposed to find the real version of. When you spy a thing, you drag a piece of transparent red film over the image.***

* Boy In Store can be good or bad. Watch him count change correctly, watch him hold the door. Or he might wipe snot on a card, might destroy Christmas ornaments.
** The sophistication and unknowability persist. The mysticism might have transferred so that’s cool. You split friendly. Scary and large are now unaccounted for.
*** With extremely common sightings like birds, it’s more fun to periodically reset the square. You slide the film back and forth repeatedly. You decide if you have seen the bird.

RFK Jr. backs down all the time when he gets push back, so if anyone wants to call, here's the HHS number 1-877-696-6775.
I'd also call your senators/reps as well.

If you're desperate to only ever experience comforting media then you don't want art, you want a literary gated community.

I don't like this trend of people being afraid to experience (negative) emotions when consuming art.

Experiencing things outside of your own point of view makes life a lot more interesting, and is honestly necessary to understand the world and people around you.

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

Why does “learning to live with covid” mean accepting repeat infections as inevitable?

Why does it mean throwing the vulnerable to the wayside, unsafe healthcare & mass disability?

That’s not “living with it”. That’s giving up

We need to adapt. Clean air, paid time off, masks in healthcare.
