As far as I know, the author Lachelle Seville is not on Bsky, so I cannot include them on this thread, but they are a wonderfully talented, imaginative author, and I hope to have more titles published by them in the future. 👀📚

And this is a final note specifically thanking @raenbowpunk.bsky.social 🙏🙏🎇 Not only was she the impetus for starting this project, she was so enthusiastic, professional and just a fkn joy to work with. <33333 The final ebook she made looks beautiful and her suggestions were excellent. 🔥🔥

The good news was, the book was actually in very good shape. BUT some tightening was done, both regarding ebook formatting and a small handful of other things. So we have the final version of the amazing DARKNESSES. If you're a vampire-, Dracula-, or modern gothic/horror fan, it's a must-read!!!

Now, some years later, a really wonderful fan of the book (hi, @raenbowpunk.bsky.social ❣️🙏💥 ) approached about doing a remaster together. Though her original offer was regarding the ebook version, I took this as the sign to go back to the print as well. Files were cracked open...

...But was involved in other projects at the time. I really wanted the book to appear in print, but did not have the time to give it as thorough an edit as I would have liked. The other option was to not publish it all--so I went with publishing.

But the book stayed in my mind--it had such a unique flavor and the off-the-wall execution, characters, and prose, stayed with me for a long time. When the author approached me again, curious if I could help them layout the book in print, I was very interested in republishing it.

Our books tend to come to us in interesting ways, and DARKNESSES is no exception. Originally, I discovered this book through a freelance editing job: the author hired me to edit their novel they intended to self-publish, as an ebook. Once the job was over, the author and I went our separate ways.

IMO every publication and every publisher should have a clear statement about their generative AI policy. To dictate what is acceptable writer usage, yes, but also to declare their own usage (or lack thereof). Do they use it for slushreading, editing, illustration, correspondence?
