Obscure weirdo solidarity 🤝
Here's what I published in 2025, should you be the sort of person who nominates obscure Canadian weirdo authors for awards of any sort.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

My reservation about this story template is how autobiographical it feels.
if you're still writing using the hero's journey, your mind is closed to all the possibilities

It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?

“We also need to have at the ready plans for reimagined institutions that make democracy real and durable going forward.”

I'm curious: Who is making plans right now?

The Case for a Third Reconstruction - Dissent Magazine
The scale and depth of the attack on our institutions means that there is no simple way for a pro-democracy coalition to flip the lights back on after Trump. We need transformative thinking.

If you're buying gifts for the holidays, maybe consider supporting artists, writers, creators. Gift someone a Patreon, commission an art piece, buy a book, purchase handmade jewelry, etc. Your support means everything.

it's kinda crazy how many Dem governors released statements for TDOR while simultaneously having their hands caught deep in the "complicit in the systemic torture and rape of trans women" jar
While Maryland Gov. Moore posted about Trans Day of Rememberance, his state was torturing a trans woman by denying her hormones and housing her with men--according to her lawyer--for 2 months.

All of this for "hate crime" charges from alleged vandalism of a trans symbol near a Catholic school.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
