I’ve started using this account again so I thought I’d re-introduce myself. Hello!✨

I write literary short fiction and essays (The Pinch, Ninth Letter, Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, Brevity, etc) and I’m working on a novel. I recently worked as an editor at CRAFT. And: I have a cute dog!

Hello friends. When was the last time you backed up your work? Consider this your reminder to do so. Have a lovely rest of your day and keep being awesome.

This is lovely.
Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

I kind of think Severance might’ve been written specifically for me, a spec fic loving literary weirdo and Reformation studies nerd obsessed with early variations of Protestantism but especially Lutheran conceptions of fate, free will, the nature of souls

Everything is depressing and I’m overwhelmed with despair today. But my dog is sort of cute

Everything is bad but my dog made a funny face today ✨

My plan:

Scan the news. Make my five calls to Congress to let them know I’m behind them. Try to love my loved ones. Call my dad, my mom. Allow my dog to sit on me. Engage my group of friends. Love them. Repeat.
How are y'all dealing with the cognitive dissonance of much of your daily life continuing as normal right now even as really really really bad shit is happening in government (that will certainly have ripple effects that will reach us all)? Because I'm honestly feeling a little insane right now.

So delighted to see this book by @ilanaslightly.bsky.social (which I read in part at Tin House!) will be out in the world ✨
Feeling a lot of trepidation and fear and also gathering strength for the years of fighting ahead. One way I'm doing that is by celebrating good things when I can. So please celebrate the beautiful cover of my novel, BEINGS, which is now up everywhere.

The news is awful but I got an SFF short story idea today for the first time in forever based on my love of antique cast iron pots which I find inherently spooky and they scare me to death ✨💀✨

You are likely going to have trouble writing as the news keeps rolling in. I have a free class for you about how to navigate wanting to write in the face of all of this bullshit.
Hey there... are you having a hard time writing right now? There's a lot of that right now. Weird, right?

So I'd like to offer you my Barriers to Writing class for free. This is about all the non-writing things that get between you and writing.

I’m in LA, lucky to be okay but trapped inside with my asthma since the air quality is so bad, and I need an escape so here I go

It bothers me to see people making fun of the California fires or suggesting we’re all rich. LA is filled with creatives at every level as well as people not associated with H’wood — it’s a big city. Many of my friends are displaced or lost everything. It’s gross to take pleasure in their suffering.
