Sometimes I write things.
I've spent more time letting the book collect dust than I spent actually working on it. It's been over 5 years since I finished it; more than 4 since I made a serious effort at publishing.
And all I ever do is complain about how it's not published.
And all I ever do is complain about how it's not published.
I wrote a 110,000 word novel. And then I spent several months reaching out to agents to ask them to help me get it published. And I waited several more months for them to get back to me with rejections.
So it's still not published, when I spent maybe 3 years working on it.

what’s the longest time you’ve spent creating something for the smallest possible reward?

Well, I'm no longer sober.
At least I tried. But it's not like circumstances made it easy.

It doesn't seem like it's worth trying anymore. No amount of effort changes anything.

Well, I functionally accomplished nothing last year. Great job, me.

It's not like I'm actively doing a lot of writing in the first place, but I'm certainly less inclined to do so when the publishers are drooling over the prospect of not having to pay me as they tear apart and repackage my hard work.
Just fucking pay authors more. That's all we want as readers. We want you to pay them more so that they write more books for us to read. We don't want AI versions of them. Jesus fuck.

I'm just sitting here hoping that my anxiety is going to give me a writing breakthrough soon. Maybe that'll be my silver lining.

I spent a day writing a web-comic thing that got 12 likes but an exasperated "Christ, that's shite" comment on some AI nonsense has 300+ likes and counting.

Maybe this is just the edible talking, but it would be so cool to write a novel entirely in Wingdings.
It's so stupid that I want to try it.

Happy Halloween everyone!
You know what, rather than bemoaning my own laziness, how about I share something I actually HAVE finished and gotten published? I think a Halloween poem is pretty relevant to the current season.

I really need to stop slacking off and go back to writing. And reaching out to publishers.
I swear, that's the only thing I post on here, but it keeps being a nagging thought in my head and I just...don't do it.

So, uh, hi. I'm not super active on here, but occasionally I show up, and I occasionally write things!

The amount of corruption just out in the open now makes it almost impossible without massive changes to every level of government and society to regain anything that even resembles a democratic society even a fundamentally flawed democracy that we held before the Trump opened to door to the abyss.

I know I say something like this every 2 weeks, but "I should really get on this."
Honestly the best thing new or inactive artists can do to grow here is just repost a bunch of your old stuff tbh.
Like go crazy, go in chronological order if you have to, but have some stuff up that people can share.
Should help you get picked up by people here so your work is shared frequently!

This has nothing to do with the implosion of #NaNoWriMo but I do think I should get myself back into the habit of writing every day. I keep skipping it because I feel like I need to focus on publication, but if I keep putting that off I end up never writing anything.
I need to make a change.

Just came up with a fascinating new story concept, based off a throwaway line from Wyrd Sisters. I have a lot of groundwork to do for this, but I think I've got a fun new short story to write soon (if not a full novel...but probably not a novel).
I'm looking forward to this.

LLMs like ChatGPT have actually done the thing people claimed Google or Wikipedia would do, in that LLMs have stopped people being curious and actually learning how stuff works, or how one gets the answer to a question. Superficial intelligence for the superficially intelligent
