This is an absolutely brilliant paper that I can only recommend to all those interested in transport poverty/equity but also in sustainable transport/climate, and on how to reconcile the two.

I can only hope that it will have the impact it deserve

Looking into #bus deregulation today...

Fun fact: Many of the bus companies started when WWI soldiers returned (the learnt engineering and driving). There were so many that they ate into rail profit leading to the creation of the big 4 railway companies!

This chart from @safeclimate.bsky.social ate.bsky.social is a beautiful work of art — and a horrifying observation of our warming planet 🧪
Chart shows near vertical growth in average global temperature rise since the Industrial Revolution. Under current policies, a 2 degree rise is expected before 2050 and 4 degrees by 2100.

I look forward to seeing how lawyers adopt this evidence like Client Earth, Lawyers for Climate Justice, and Climate Counsel!

Good reporting on an attribution study from @nature.com:
🫠 Emissions from each of the 14 biggest #fossilFuel Firms made >50 heatwaves otherwise near-impossible
📈 Exxon & Aramco made 51 #heatwaves ≥10,000× likelier
🔥180 companies caused ~½ the rise in intensity (forest loss most of the rest)

New @natclimate.nature.com study on climate belief systems worldwide:
⁉️Middle East & North Africa shows more inconsistent beliefs, due(?) to economic interests
📨Societies with more information exposure → tighter climate belief networks
🚫Interconnected beliefs corr. with anti-climate stances
"solid edges represent positive correlations, while dashed edges represent negative correlations. Edge thickness reflects the strength of the partial correlation, with thicker lines indicating stronger associations."

🚗 The richest are on course to emit 13x more carbon than the poorest from their domestic travel by 2035.

✈️ If you include international travel, the richest are expected to emit 22x more than the poorest.

Interesting article from Utrecht (relevant elsewhere) on the role of shared mobility hubs in tackling transport poverty. Based on focus groups with residents of a deprived neighbourhood. Biggest issue = no one has any idea what ‘shared mobility hubs’ are & that one existed in their neighbourhood.

Increasing urbanisation and climate change pose significant challenges to cities’ environments and quality of living. Limited mobility options lead to transport poverty that reduces social particip...

2.1 e-bikes are sold per 1,000 people in Britain, putting the UK second-last among 30 European countries. France's subsidies *tripled* sales.

It's insane that we don't subsidise #E-bikes in the UK considering all the benefits they bring to both the people who use them AND those who don't!
UK urged to boost support as e-bike uptake lags behind Europe
The UK has one of the lowest rates of e-bike ownership in Europe, with industry figures warning that a lack of government support is holding back adoption of what could be a key pillar of greener tran...

Very cool that the @rgsibg.bsky.social is offering free bus travel around #Birmingham for the #RGS2025 conference! Great way to reduce scope 3 emissions. I wonder what the lasting impact is on modal choice for return visitors in the future... would love an impact assessment!

🌍 81% of UK football fans care about climate
🗣️ But rarely talk about it
🔇Leading to misperceptions & social stigma
@pledgeball.bsky.social could change that
