Housing / transportation / politics / etc. opinions my own, but restrained.
Their standard is 1/8th mile and they aren’t interested in changing it

I think you’d be surprised how much of the barrier CTA is. We asked them to consider removing some bus stops on Clark as part of the bike lane project and they absolutely refused - even when we said *if* we did it we would take the heat and make it clear it was our idea.

This seems like a super long timeline for a single station rebuild…

Correct

Building is 3.49 FAR.

Lot area - 10,044
Floors 2-4 - GSF of 7661
So the current building layout could have gone up to 7 stories before hitting a hard maximum - 16 more units.

-7 and -10 can’t wait!

Also even with 5 FAR on this lot… you wouldn’t get much more height. I can look at the plans and get the ~exact FAR.

Whoa at the old TI?

Kinzie Industrial TIF also has so much money they could just go through the city without needing to add slow federal requirements.

This is a slam dunk good planning infill station without a designated political constituency which is why it probably won’t happen soon enough :/

To be fair land value downtown has fallen!

Huh I’ll investigate

Honestly they should try to figure out how to automate the blue line with that money. There will be so much work for the operators on the others…

Or what incremental capital project timelines might look like with additional funding (though this funding is mostly (?) operational and also capital funding comes from more sources?)
November 2, 2025 at 2:56 AM
The growth budget seems like the least planned out of the three (at least in this document).

Would love to hear more *options* from CTA like:

- Cost of an increase to 8-minute service minimum (+ more on some lines)
- Cost of 6-minute service min
- Cost of all-day purple express

etc...

This on page 41 (51 of the PDF is the most substantive part for operations).

CTA Budget presents three scenarios, including one where they get additional funding. It isn't super precise but a decent starting point, and the most detail to come out publicly to date afaik:

Would love to see an ASTM audit of new buildings generally tbh. Curious even how many luxury high rises would pass. Genuinely have no idea!
