Hi! I write about games, and try to make them as well. I've ended up mostly posting retrocomputing stuff here so far. Games: https://joachim.itch.io/ Writings: https://spillhistorie.no/ (English: https://spillhistorie.no/content-in-english/ ) I support 🇺🇦

I reviewed Strange Antiquities from @badvikinggames.bsky.social and @iceberg-int.bsky.social . Review is in Norwegian, but TLDR; I had a very good time with the game. Lots of clever puzzles that made me feel smart for solving them.

I've been watching Kurt J Mac walking towards the Far Lands in Minecraft almost since the beginning (originally followed him because of his Spintires videos). And tonight he is going to get there! Only took 14 years. www.twitch.tv/kurtjmac

I've been playing Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon lately. It's really good. Obviously low budget compared to the better known RPGs released this year, but the writing and acting is surprisingly great, and if you can deal with some Elder Scrolls style jank, you'll probably like it a lot.

It's worth reading this and some of the quotes people have made, to make an informed decision about supporting the SNES RPGs book.

Let's hope the book doesn't have a section on Brazil or "third world countries"

Huh, that's disappointing.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Me and @retrogamingpappa.bsky.social had a chat with Roger Dean a couple of months ago, and today we published our interview. Among many things, we spoke about the cancelled Black Onyx game he was working on with Henk Rogers.

I see what you mean, though I agree with them that keeping these games running on modern hardware should be *their* main focus. Maybe they should simply have named it something else.

But mostly, I just wish they'd release more old games. We've gone from a couple a week to a couple every 6 months...

And for fun, a slightly more colourful PC version that I'm working on. #gamemaker

It's almost the end of #sharptember , so I'll finish with some screenshots of my game Minesnake on the MZ-80A. I've learned a lot since I made it, and would have done a lot differently now. But the concept is still good, I think. It's on Itch.io.

Look at this neat thing! Works great, and the stick is really comfortable. Thanks to @retrogamingpappa.bsky.social who made it for me.

#Sharptember If you replace the CG-ROM file in the emulator with the Japanese one you can play Japanese MZ games with the correct graphics showing. Here's a bit of Namco's Galaxian demonstrating the much coveted single pixel graphic character that was not available in the western ROM.

This is awesome, Ropoko is coming to the Switch (and Steam) on the 9th October. It will include the English translation which I helped the author with :) As for the MZ-700 English release, this should be around or just before Christmas time.

Day 264(21) - #sharptember - I thought I'd leave the first MZ to last because it's not really a computer in the traditional sense - but it's so bizarre I couldn't ignore it completely. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Sharp MZ-40K ... 1/3
jfroholt.bsky.social
I honestly think this is a very weird take. Games that weren't? Shut down, because you were never supposed to have that stuff.
jfroholt.bsky.social
The Sharp MZ-80A can only use character graphics, but fortunately there are a few characters dedicated to pseudopixels. So I made a picture. #sharptember

I absolutely love these games. Though I play them purely using text input, the UI is ... well, it's there. :)
jfroholt.bsky.social
Wow, that looks pretty striking!

Oh, that's interesting. Looks like it does some neat things too.

Disappointing that there's quite a bit of misinformation in your thread, Frank, so allow this humble "British tabloid" to clear things up a little, if we may:
