Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

There is some sad irony in McClatchy shutting its DC bureau the same day that Dick Cheney died.

That bureau (then Knight-Ridder) did some of the best, most skeptical reporting anywhere in the run-up to the Iraq War. And they took a lot of shit for it at the time.

Turnarounds in a country can surge from a weary, burdened People, who can no longer stand the heavy disparities between their poor life conditions and the brazen, cynical abuse against them from those in power.

A.I. can produce the possibilities of history repeating itself.

I sit in one of the dives
On Fifty-second Street
Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth...

As a native German speaking European who lived for years in the US, I am growing more incredulous by the day at what is happening in the US

I knew a 2nd Trump term would be bad but this total breakdown of right vs wrong, of any & all morales on sides of so many is truly shocking

Saying "the fish rots from the head" is true. In every society there are assholes and imbeciles, just they normally are a minority. If the first person in county, who should set an example, actively encourages them, then indecency prevails. Germans in their majority were decent before the WW2.

I very much recommend people watch this series of clips. I suggest doing so because I've noticed a lot of 2024 election analyses seem to 1) misrepresent what Harris said/did & 2) project upon Harris things she did not say/did not do.
Repeat after Kamala Harris:
"Recession by the middle of next year"
*or sooner

If you're a journalist in the US and you're not speaking out against the ongoing killing of Palestinian journalists, at record levels, by a US-funded foreign military, then you should hang your head in shame.

Exactly. Absurd. And it’s so professional to be including emojis in these communications, given that US service people were putting their lives on the line, and its likely that noncombatants were also victims./s. This is what happens when you put Fox entertainers in charge of government departments.
If not obvious:

- this was not the first time Signal was used to conduct government business
- likely not the first time used to conduct sensitive government business
- this violates the Presidential Records Act
