Really, everyone in highered should have this thread bookmarked.

Starting a new thread to collect critical perspectives on AI, as they are articulated dozens of times every day and appear repeatedly on my timeline. I can't read everything right away, but if, like me, you want to stay up to date, then this might help a bit:

It's not going to happen. I've got papers to grade and classes to teach. But, the idea of dropping everything to got a lecture on chiller plates definitely appeals to me right now. Even if my Czech is garbage, and I won't understand most of what they are saying.

For some reason I am receiving emails from a Czech microbrewer association, and now I want to attend a conference at Budweiser Budvar next week, simply because it's only $25 USD....

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Of all the Kafkaesque bureaucracies of higher education, having to rewrite my teaching philosophy every year is perhaps the most burdensome. I think about these things constantly, but the weight of writing it down in ever more novel ways each year has become crushing.

Thanks for the ref here. I usually run a Reacting to the Past game that has Margaret Sanger as a role and have a hard time impressing on students the tone she has to take given the timeframe.

Whelp. At least we're not alone in no longer being undefeated...

OK, the Eagles played like trash. But also, fuck those refs.

Why is my punter limping off the field? Simms and Romo will never tell...

Sean Payton is a piece of shit and should have been banned for life after the whole bounty scandal. It's a disgrace.
jimgetz.bsky.social
Could Simms and Romo actually call the game? I really would like to know what's happening on the field rather than their weird opinions.

Come on man, we're Philadelphia sports fans. We are always on the brink of puking from anxiety.

I would take that as a dare…

I've been toying with crossing the Tiber for at least a decade, but I haven't because I didn't want people to associate me with these chuds.

*Sees the most Catholic person in the world doing the most Catholic thing there imaginable*: goddamn Pagans!

Far-right Catholics freaking out about the Pope doing normal Pope things will always be entertaining.

The Pope blessed some water? Can you even imagine?
Matt Walsh: Horrific. The whole thing. Pope Leo blesses a block of ice and then stands there while these communist freaks do some kind of weird pagan Earth worshipping hippy ritual. The leader of the Catholic Church shouldn’t be anywhere near this nonsense. What the hell are we doing here

@CatholicSat: The Blessing of the Waters by Pope Leo XIV, at today’s ‘Raising Hope for Climate Justice’ International Conference at Castel Gandolfo.
