I was convinced Bauers was gonna do something. Maybe they make a play on it or not, but I didn’t see the ball not getting into play after his earlier at bats.

Milwaukee WI, thanks for a fun night at Shank Hall! SOTN: Something I Learned Today. Tonight: Opera House in Stoughton WI.

I put this Yelich quote from late July aside because I had never seen him say anything like this before. Saying “they have half our coaching staff” isn’t exactly hiding how he feels.
A quote from Christian Yelich after the Brewers beat the Cubs on July 28, 2025. It reads:

“They’re a good team. It’s fun when they’re a good team, you know? It kind of feels like we’re just playing with house money. They’re supposed to win the division. They’re supposed to have the high expectations. They have half our coaching staff, they made a bunch of trades, so if they don’t win the division, I’m sure it would be pretty disappointing.”

“They hate us for our restaurants.” Maybe Paul Sullivan believes it, though it’s too comically snobbish to be taken at face value. As if I can’t drive 80 minutes and eat at Galit or Monteverde because I live in Milwaukee.

The Chicago view pretends the unique psychology and irrationality of sports fandom simply doesn’t exist. They act as if it’s like your cousin Marty left Allis-Chalmers for a job at United. They are fools, and as Yelich has said and shown, the fans’ feelings are, to an extent, also in the clubhouse.

Counsell was born and raised locally. He still lives there. He was a Brewers bat boy. He played for them. It's a unique situation. But it's also the way he did it. He talked out of both sides of his mouth while negotiating with the Cubs behind the team's back.

Playing Shakedown into the break while showing me a Judge homer is cruel. Get that stank off my song.

I did an honest to god double take and had to stare at the tag to make sure I wasn’t mistaken. I know inflation is bad but cmon.

Overheard during a quick run to Sendik’s over lunch, part 3:

“$9.99 a pound for boneless pork chops?! Be serious. C’mon.”

(It was me. I overheard me at Sendik’s looking at the boneless pork chops.)

“Thank God for Chourio.”

This bad boy has been a dependable workhorse for us. GE model APEL50. Pumps into the basin too. Basement is always bone dry.

SRO is fantastic. Perfect for playoff games when the ticket prices get pretty damn high. I’ve done it a few times with a friend of mine for the postseason.

Must be a hell of a thing, being an old guy like that watching your grandson pitch a flawless postseason inning that ends with hundreds of people around you chanting his name. We chatted with him after the game; the guy was beaming with pride.

We had SRO last night and settled on the railing at the back of section 103 in the right-field bleachers - behind Chad Patrick’s grandpa. The vibes were pristine all night, but after Chad’s inning, everybody showed so much love to the old man.
Three senior citizens in Chad Patrick shirts stand for the national anthem at game 2 of the NLDS between the Cubs and Brewers. On the far right is a tall man in a blue Chad Patrick shirsey. His family around him happily pointed out all night that was Chad Patrick’s grandpa.

It was too good to be true. Something had to go wrong.

Joey Ortiz has been walked on four pitches in both of his plate appearances. Putting that fact into writing means this post belongs in the Library of Congress as an important historical artifact.

It’s such a fun voice to re-live and experiment with. I appreciated the post!

First one worked better for me, but I admire the workshopping. Rewriting is writing and all that.

You know it. That’s how we’re gonna do it, come hell or high water.

A 1 o’clock start for Game 1 probably for the best, all things considered.
