We have a research dedicated 3T MRI Facility (I'm the Director, AMA). Lots of EEG, a couple TMS systems, eyetracking, etc. We also have a great cog neuro community that spans basic to applied/clinical. Most of us do some level of computational work, but want to strengthen this area

Christian leaders have a huge role to play in opposing illegal/unconstitutional activities through actions like this. And enormous power. The right has used religious freedom claims to break all sorts of laws and regulations and found support in the courts.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
Religious protesters say ICE threatens religious freedom in Chicago
(RNS) — Despite potential danger, religious leaders and faith activists have been a visible presence at Chicago-area ICE protests, some waving signs with slogans such as ‘Love thy neighbor’ and ‘Who w...

As important as Iggy Pop has been to my musical (& general) life it took until today to see him live. Killer set, tons of Stooges and early solo. Great to see him in a smaller venue too

It took Trump 60 minutes to murmur out a wet "that's all, folks!" before the UN Tuesday. Given that he was talking to himself and no one outside the greater Trumpiverse can hear him, it's the only thing he could say.

Trump’s incoherent harangue to the family of nations put a spotlight on America’s self-inflicted, abject isolation.

n.b., the Emily Witt manosphere essay Derek Thompson criticizes here is far more insightful and worthy of study than anything he's written in years www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

I'm liking many my booze-follows reposting this thread. It's a great thread and an interesting paper, but I also love seeing others also enjoying the combo of two of my favorite topics (booze and primate behavior)

Last week a paper came out, showing that chimpanzees daily consume significant amounts of alcohol. A thread where I walk through why the paper matters, then the paper itself.

Sandel 3, Bi Z. A. Blaiore4,5, Roman M. Wittig5,6,John C. Mitani7, Robert Dudley1,8Human attraction to alcohol may derive from an evolutionary association between ethanol and fruits consumed byanimals in nature. Fermentative yeasts are widespread in the terrestrial biosphere, and simple carbohydrates un-derpinning ethanol production are commonplace within fruits. We determined ethanol concentrations withinfruits representing a substantial portion of the diet of our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees. Ripe fruit pulpfrom 20 angiosperm species in Côte d’Ivoire and Uganda contained an average value of 0.31 (± 0.21 SD) and 0.32%(± 0.20) ethanol (weight/weight), respectively, as scaled by annual chimpanzee feeding time per species at eachsite. Chimpanzees typically eat ~4.5 kilograms of fruit per day, corresponding to an estimated ethanol ingestion of14 grams (±9), or the equivalent of 1.4 (±0.9) standard drinks by international standards. These findings are con-sistent with the hypothesis that ethanol is widespread within tropical fruits and that modern predisposition to al-cohol consumption derives from ancestral exposure to this psychoactive substance among frugivorous primates."

I got called paranoid and hyperbolic when I said this would happen because one of the long-term goals is to push cis girls out of sports and it would happen because ppl only see the transphobia so they get in board, but they don't realize how they're hurting cis girls too.
