Sorta reminds me of Matthew 6:5-6
Matt. 6:5-6 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

Love it
I can't wait to sign

But what I love the most is that regular Albertans are using Smith's pro-separatist legislation against her

Elections Alberta has approved a citizen-initiated petition application to gather signatures in support of the proposal to end public funding to independent/private schools.

Calgary teacher Alicia Taylor says she brought it forward because it could help improve funding for public schools. #AbEd
Alberta teacher prompts petition on province's private school funding | CBC News
If high school chemistry teacher Alicia Taylor gets her wish, Albertans will vote in a referendum on whether to end public funding for independent schools.

WOW!

Alberta just got another approved referendum petition!

And this one calls for the practice of funding private schools with public money to be put to an end!

During the teachers strike!

Strap in Alberta, we’re going on a ride!

McDavid will get a very appreciative ovation from Oilers fans on opening night.

Hey wait, when Danielle said that no one gets to settle for more than 12…(?!?)

Great tip. I just put one on hold at Edmonton public Library to try in my classroom once we are back!

Good video reminder: Increasing Class size and poor infrastructure 📈 have direct connection to poor air quality and lowered learning outcomes for students.📉

Another reason why the Alberta government should be reminded to improve the investment in public education.

One of my kids' classes a couple years ago had CO2 well into the cognitive impairment range. Bad for a bunch of reasons, but it *looks like* the teacher is just really bad at their job, because all the kids do poorly just in that one class. Boards seem to fix-then-test ("all our tests are OK") too.

Here's what bad air quality alone does to mental function (not counting long COVID etc, just rebreathing air in a poorly ventilated space like a school bus, and only up to 2,500 ppm). Even with qualified drivers that endangers our kids.

Source: ehp.niehs.nih.gov/doi/10.1289/...
A plot of cognitive impairment resulting from elevated CO2 levels (from this paper: https://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/doi/10.1289/ehp.1104789), showing a small trend towards worse performance already at 1,000 ppm CO2 in comparison to 600 ppm, and dramatically worse performance (reaching the "dysfunctional" level in the categories of Initiative, Information usage, Breadth of approach and Basic strategy) at 2,500 ppm. This is perhaps not surprising as these levels would rarely be encountered when our ancestors lived outdoors.

Class sizes, core subjects metro school boards, until the UCP stopped measuring in 2019.

Seriously. It was 28C in my classroom in the early days of September. In February, if I leave my lunch on the shelf next to the exterior wall, it will freeze. The hallways are more crowded between every single class than the concourse at the old Rexall place or the Saddledome. Priorities.(!?!)

My colleagues and I are worried about the future of public education in Alberta. This year my smallest class is 36 students and, for the first time in 20 yrs of teaching, I have a class of more than 40. The speed limit around the school is 30. The class size limit should be 30 as well. #ableg #abed
Image stating that I am teaching a class with 41 students. Our kids deserve better.

With no apparent public apology from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for completely fabricating a story about a child and his parents…

It seemed like a good time to re-up her philosophy on how to deal with mistakes and accountability.

With the looming teacher strike, I found this essay from an AB teacher very illuminating.

"Over the past eight years, the UCP has never missed an opportunity to antagonize teachers on issues that didn’t need to cost a single penny. "
