This is an important case for students with disabilities, but there is one way the federal government could help. Fully fund #IDEA! The government currently gives about 15% instead of the promised 40% per student, causing a heavy financial burden on states.

In 2021, McConnell successfully filibustered a Democratic CR ahead of a government shutdown and forced them to accept a clean one instead. What happened this week - a total cave on a totally partisan long-term funding bill - hasn’t happened in the 20 years I’ve covered Congress.

Since it apparently needs to be said: As a Jew who works on a university campus, I am safest in a country that protects academic freedom and liberal values of due process of law. Anyone who supports extrajudicial detention of students for "wrong" ideological opinions is not doing it for my safety.

My father, Dr. Franco Muggia, was associate director of the National Cancer Institute in the 1970s. NIH grants are central to the development treatments that helped advance longevity in the US. My father would be devastated to see where we are now. Actually, he’d be pissed off and fighting back.
