“In pursuit of power and money, technology enabled insidious manipulation at the cellular level of all of our democracies: of us - the voters - microtargeting fear, anger & hate; seeding metanarratives that destroyed trust.” Reflect on the Nobel Laureate’s full speech. 👇

"All bow down before wealth. They measure happiness & respectability by (it). It's a homage resulting from a profound faith that w/wealth he may do all things. Weath is one idol, a second is notoriety - "fame" is considered a great good in itself and a ground of veneration." John Henry Newman

Opinion: Hospitals for the soul: What we’ll lose when monasteries disappear
We’re surrounded by ever more New Age sanctuaries, retreat-centres and yoga-inflected spas, yet what will be lost if formal monasteries and convents based on lifelong commitments close down?

Ursula K. Le Guin would have been furious, but unsurprised, to see our present mess.
Ursula K. LeGuin: "American science fiction has assumed a permanent hierarchy of superiors and inferiors, with rich, ambitious, aggressive males at the top, then a great gap, and then at the bottom the poor, the uneducated, the faceless masses, and all the women."

The age of social media has brought us the Reign of the Brat. Rationale adults are boring = no views. Childish burns, put downs, bullying, explosive language and images = views = money = more of the same content. The system rewards bottom feeders. And we’re all paying for it.

How about it #Toronto - it's past time for a #congestion charge. But, we need to learn from London, UK, on how car-share and taxi companies are charged, create Low/Ultra Low Emissions zones, charging more depending on a vehicle's emission levels, or we'll lose a lot of those gains.👇

Today, the 10th day of #Christmas is the Feast of The Most Holy Name of Jesus. All too often the name of Jesus is used without thought, without awareness or in anger. Hollywood - and Canadian media for that matter - seem to be doing their best to strip the name of its meaning...don't let them.
