I buy American iPhones because they’re better than European phones - I don’t own a Nokia…

I buy European cars (German) because they’re better and more suited to me than a Ford F150

It’s not tariffs. I

If the congressional Democrats wanna get a message out - maybe go big on a bill that drastically reduces the power of the US President to unilaterally impose tariffs? Maybe somewhere to start. Easy to understand for your typical voter

Wonder if this prices in likely stimulus to German industry? Imagine a lot of borrowing will go to domestic defence manufacturing base
Goldman Sachs: German 10-year bond yield could rise to 3.75% in medium term, from 2.73% currently, after proposals to overhaul debt brake.

I voted and campaigned for Labour this summer, and think Starmer has had an excellent week given the circumstances and low expectations. But it’s worth remembering that NHS waiting times and the economy will be what delivers him a second term - Trump does nothing to help either of these challenges.

Errors like this probably happen more than people realise. But banks quickly catch them, they have many other controls in place.
Citigroup accidentally credited a client’s account with $81 trillion when it meant to send only $280, the latest mistake at a bank that is struggling to repair its reputation after a string of errors in recent years.
Citigroup Makes (and Then Fixes) an $81 Trillion Mistake
The bank temporarily credited a customer’s account with trillions of dollars, adding to scrutiny of risk management systems after a series of errors.

The Hubris score for this first month of the Trump administration feels off the charts. It’s wild. How he reacts to the problems he’s creating will be intriguing.n

I look at Musk and wonder if I have the same feeling that many British voters had in the 70s about the Trade Union barons

If the betrayal from the United States towards Ukraine isn’t a clearer warning signal for Europe, I don’t know what is.

Europe (inc. UK) needs to come together. No “ever closer union” crap - one single goal. I suggest cheap, abundant and secure energy for every person and business. Focus on that.

Obviously Trump will go with supply side - but lower demand?

He’s very likely to fumble social security or healthcare cuts - a lot of his base consumes them.

Almost certainly would not favour higher interest rates. He’s always argued for a weaker dollar to help exports.

Tariffs? Taxes?
Trump economics adviser Kevin Hassett: "We want increased supply and lower aggregate demand ... that 100 percent is what the strategy is"

The Athletic “Talk of the Devils” podcast would be fine if they let @lauriewhitwell.bsky.social get on with it and sack off the other three.

Unlistenable start. There was absolutely more Rangers fans in home sections vs Galatasaray. Host just interrupting with his shit TV puns for way too long.

To me the cool thing about this image is that the sprinkling of blue stars are in the foreground, some 5 million light years away, while all those gorgeous colorful swirly galaxies are almost unimaginably more distant, out in the far depths of the cosmos. More info: www.stsci.edu/contents/med...
Oh come ON now. This new JWST image is just ASTOUNDING.

I feel like I’m falling looking into it, and that I would fall forever, and that I would enjoy it.

It is such a good Premier League this season. Feels like almost every team has a chance. Different to 15/16 - feels like there is a higher level of quality there too.

20 years ago Rupert Lowe was a weird toff on Sky Sports News doing a bad job of explaining why he was relegating Southampton.

Today he is seemingly being championed by the world’s richest man who’s totally of his head to be the next Prime Minister. What a strange turn of events.
