Not only is our peer review process now inflected from writing to review (to proofing/editing 🤢) with “speed it up with AI”, using AI summaries to “read” a paper eliminates researchers’ ability to *critically* assess a paper’s methods and practices. A summary cannot tell you if the claims are valid!
one thought I have halfway through is that the practice of sharing or citing without a full reading is *the exact thing* actively encouraged by AI “summaries” embedded in every PDF reader, Google Scholar, freaking Proquest, etc.
