Jalen’s numbers against zone have always been weaker than when he’s against man, but he’s never been *this* weak vs zone before. My baseline isn’t that he produces amazing numbers when facing it, just not the literally the worst in the league. It’s hard for me to put that on him when it’s *this* bad
it should be a tell about what's happening in the media now that most mainstream commentators seem openly frustrated that polling does not blame democrats for the shutdown
I'm still a doomer about tonight overall, and if for some reason I'm wrong, any extension of the series beyond that. But I found this piece persuasive about the Schwarber-Yamamoto matchup specifically.
Looking back at the entire Hurts/Sirianni era, the #Eagles have always been slower than almost all other teams at snapping the ball, but through 5 games, this 2025 version is an extreme outlier from all of the other 159 team-seasons in this period.
now, here’s where I’m going to lose some people: if the players are acknowledging that it’s harder to perform with that amount of tension in the air, shouldn’t we as fans try do things to try to prevent that tension from rising in the first place?
He’s gotten it to the point where he’s clearly more problem than solution, but “Thomson is worsening their chances of winning playoff games” <> “they would start winning playoff series by only changing the manager and nothing else”
275 pitchers threw 1,000 or more pitches this year. Of those, Luzardo had the eighth-biggest increase in opponent wOBA when there was at least one runner on base. Gotta keep those bags clean.
There was information at the time that Jesus should have a quick hook if he puts one man on base. I don’t crush topper for Jesus entering the 7th, but he had to go after that first batter
Yeah, I think people are wildly overrating Stott's hitting in this discourse (for those who haven't seen the other 3 skeets I've said this: he should've ditched the bunt after he showed it the first time, this isn't a status quo defense)
Schwarber and Harper have significantly different things going on, and I’m much more worried about the latter going forward in his career than the former.
kyle had a 99mph pop out, a walk, and two strikeouts on what were plus-plus pitches. the other night he had a warning track shot, two strikeouts against the reigning mvp, and a strikeout on three pitches in the heart of the zone for what I would consider to be his only “poor” at-bat in two games.
There are so many reasons why this is a fireable decision in itself. But an additional one beyond this series is it’s going to piss Ranger off when he’s about to hit free agency.
Would be like Jalen handing the middle linebacker the headset from his helmet with the coaching staff saying “we’re running play action here after this snap”. Never understand why you do it twice.
I don’t hate the idea of bunting as much as everyone else seems to, but once Stott showed his intention on the first pitch, he had to ditch it on the second.
The difference between Schwarber and Turner/Harper is Schwarber’s team always gets better when he arrives. Harper’s previous team won the World Series the next year after he left, and Turner’s previous team did 2 years after he left
