My new manuscript, Swallow All the Light is finally ready to query.

In a community where locals believe nature avenges those who harm it, a woman's battle against patriarchy and class leads to ecological disaster.

Am I the only one that finds chickpea skin revolting? Why don't they come skinned in the can? If you don't peel them, that's gross, whole thing looks like a mess of peeled blisters: disgusting when they come loose in your food.

Clarity, dear reader, is key. Take this abomination, for instance. How was this giraffe dissected? Horizontally? Vertically? The arse end of the beast or the full neck, chest, shoulders, and fore legs. I can't think of a less dividable animal than a giraffe! Try using a whole rhino next time.

My twin boys are 18 today. I could not be more proud of these fine young men.

Wife: you can only bring one book to Ireland.

Me: Of course, of course. See? One book.

@minjinlee.bsky.social spoke at our Unbound Book Festival keynote last Friday. In her talk, she discussed having a thesis, or truth that anchors your novel. In Pachinko, it's: History has failed us, but no matter. She made these words the opening line of the book.

Unbound Book festival stormed into Columbia last weekend. What a fantastic event! I'm proud to be on the board, and privileged to participate and meet so many wonderful people.

And though I saw adults here and there, it quickly became apparent that the majority of the 50 or so headstones were of young children, most less than five years old, each having one of five surnames. It's a reminder of how bad things were before modern childhood vaccines and medicine.

Leaving the pub in the village where my father was born, I paused on the bridge for several minutes and listened to the waters of the Brosna river. Such a beautiful, peaceful place. I didn't want the moment to end.

When an AI asks you to correct an error, it's asking you to train it. You're trading your knowledge and skills for nothing. Those companies then translate this into trillions of $s in stock value. Next time an AI asks you for help, ask it how much your time is worth.

I found a photo while scrolling through past dates on FB for a writing project. 1973/74: My dad holds me in his @gardasiochana.bsky.social uniform outside the house he built with his bare hands. The project concerns a story about me and my son, but maybe the universe is telling me to think bigger.

Thank you Ireland for delivering a relatively sane result while the rest of the world loses the plot.
