After you stop using the Duolingo app, it becomes that psycho ex that stalked you across your digital landscape, pestering for attention and validation like it has a serious personality disorder. Go get your own life, Owl.

After telling an editor that I'm not a short story writer, I challenged myself to write one this weekend. Not only did I enjoy the process, I'm really proud of the result. I learned so much about precision in language and getting small sentences to do many things at once.

I just found a Frustrated Writers group on Instagram. That could be a long lonely tunnel into a dark place. Yep. Not clicking on that.

I don't write long hand, as the result is indecipherable. But I share her irritation.

Had a dream last night that I was trying to buy a cottage in Ireland, but couldn't understand the rules, or anything people said when trying to explain them. I had to ask them to repeat themselves over&over to both our discomfort. Is my mind trying to tell me I've spent too long in the USA? #dreams

@jessicaberg.bsky.social Hello Jessica. Can I ask if you know when you'll reopen for queries? I have an Irish rural noir that is a good match. Thanks, Liam.

Am I the only one that finds chickpea skin revolting? Why don't they come skinned in the can? If you don't peel them, that's gross, whole thing looks like a mess of peeled blisters: disgusting when they come loose in your food.

Clarity, dear reader, is key. Take this abomination, for instance. How was this giraffe dissected? Horizontally? Vertically? The arse end of the beast or the full neck, chest, shoulders, and fore legs. I can't think of a less dividable animal than a giraffe! Try using a whole rhino next time.

@minjinlee.bsky.social spoke at our Unbound Book Festival keynote last Friday. In her talk, she discussed having a thesis, or truth that anchors your novel. In Pachinko, it's: History has failed us, but no matter. She made these words the opening line of the book.
