All That Is Over by SPRINTS
sprintsmusic.bandcamp.com/album/all-th...

Irish post-punk that continues to impress. 2nd album that seems to be diviating from sounds of their 1st while staying true to whatever journey they're on with what they create. I'm along for the ride.

Dance Called Memory by Nation of Language

New! One of those groups that when on shuffle and their music comes up, I find myself always checking what's currently playing. Gives me those The Smiths or Joy Division vibes.

This is a @Miss604.com discovery. Inuk muscian Elisapie has an all cover album in her indegenous language, which I also picked up, but this remix EP is so good. Her cover of "Dreams" is amazing.

Over on Mastodon, I've done a regular thing where I post some of my purchases for #BandcampFriday, where artists get 100% of what you buy.

I'll replicate that here with five purchases I made yesterday in the following thread...

Trial Islands
and one of the transmitter sites that @johnbollwitt.com has been to for work 📻
Zoomed in on a collection of two small islands in the Salish Sea off Vancouver Island. The islands have no trees, just grass and rock, but there is a lighthouse and four AM transmitter towers. The Olympic Mountain range in Washington State is in the distance across the strait.

Tonight in #Vancouver: We saw some bands @johnbollwitt.com told me about (one of our love languages is introducing each other to music)

On this day in 2017, @johnbollwitt.com and I got to have dinner at a long table event on Parliament Hill in #Ottawa. We were visiting the city because a photo John took had been revealed in the new Canadian History Hall at the @canmushistory.bsky.social
A selfie I took in front of a long table setup on a closed street. People are sitting at the table and John is standing behind me across the table. Behind us are the Canadian parliament building with the tall (92m) peace tower

An image that made me stop.

I went to a Catholic elementary school. My only fear was tornado drills.

This makes my heart hurt.

Harm reduction often gets conflated with treatment in discussions about addiction and toxic drugs

They are not the same thing

Countless lives have been saved through clean needles and overdose prevention sites but BC’s policies are always shifting

Pt 3 in my series
www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar...
From shame and secrecy to Suboxone: B.C. drug users credit harm reduction for recoveries
The very phrase “harm reduction” can prompt a fiery debate the moment it’s mentioned, but for the British Columbians who’ve recovered from drug addiction, such policies have been literal lifesavers.

On this day 6 years ago, @johnbollwitt.com and I took a ski-plane up to the world’s largest non-polar icefield, in view of Canada’s highest mountain (Logan)

4th largest icefield in the world technically, behind the North Pole, South Pole, and Greenland.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.
Graphic showing a 9 m wide track for metros can move as many people as a 175 m road for cars.

The best way to support FREE community events is to attend them, and about 10,000 did 🙌
Thanks to Burnaby for offering this fest. Happy to be a media sponsor.

Why yes, I’m randomly watching St. George Willawong vs Sunshine Coast of the NPL Queensland.

In fact, with 500+ viewers, I think there are more people watching on YouTube than at the match.

Trees on one end, turf that’s seen better days, no announcers, and just one camera that zooms and pans. 😍
A screenshot of a YouTube stream of a football (soccer) match somewhere in Queensland, Australia between St. George Willawong vs Sunshine Coast. Looking down the center line, the stadium is quite small with fairly chewed up turf. There are only three or four bleachers on each side of team’s benches on each side of the center line with only a handful of spectators on each of the bleachers.
