I'm genuinely not sure how many people actually know the "First they came for..." prose piece is not a metaphor, it is Martin Niemoller's description of what literally happened to him

Martin Niemöller was a German Lutheran pastor and theologian born in Lippstadt, Germany, in 1892. Niemöller was initially an anti-Communist, anti-semite and supported Adolf Hitler. But when Hitler rose to power and insisted on the supremacy of the state over religion, Niemöller became disillusioned. He became the leader of a group of German clergymen opposed to Hitler.

In 1937 he was arrested and eventually confined in Sachsenhausen and Dachau. He was released in 1945 by the Allies. He continued his career in Germany as a cleric and as a leading voice of penance and reconciliation for the German people after World War II.

I just think you're equating "a guy who follows the teachings of Jesus" and "Christian" and I don't think you can do that.

I agree that people who give to the poor are better than people who shoot priests in the head, but I don't agree that that makes one of them more or less Christian

I get that you WANT Christianity to just be defined by the nice bits of Matthew and Luke, but it's - historically and authentically - far more complicated than that.
